I found this video, which shows car, pedestrian and bike traffic in one intersection in New York, fascinating to watch:

Humn. Any New Yorkers care to comment? I've only visited there, but it seems to me that in that video, car traffic is (1) very light and (2) remarkably well-behaved, compared to the norm.

I don't think I could do that.

I was astounded at the number of cyclists riding against traffic. And half the time I couldn't tell what side had a green or red light.

OK, I'm a New Yorker--I'm pretty sure this intersection is Park Av South and E 28 St. It is a relatively calm stretch of Park Av South but even so, I was surprised at the light car/truck traffic compared to foot and cycle traffic.

The video doesn't seem to include an example of my "favorite" inexplicable pedestrian behavior--walking in the roadway, parallel to traffic, alongside parked cars. I never noticed this behavior as a pedestrian myself but when driving or riding in NYC, I find it's bizarrely common. The miscreants aren't trying to cross the street, hail a cab or go to a car. They're just being weird. I've discussed this with friends and we are all baffled.

YES, this! I swear I gasped out loud the first time I saw that. I was scared of being hurt just watching this on my computer. :)

The same video has been linked now from 2 other threads in the forum, one by Brandi (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=43176) and the other by Biciclista (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=43166).

I am with PamNY: my favorite is the semi truck backing up, but not only that... it does it a U-turn!

Bikes going against traffic in between moving traffic are a scary sight. I see much of the same behaviors here, in the Chicago area. Yesterday, during rush hour (cars bumper to bumper a traffic lights) I saw a cyclist, no helmet, racing against traffic in a 4 lane avenue, towards the traffic light. Just as the traffic light changed to green, he decided to steer right and go in between the cars that were starting to move. They hit the brakes very hard. Unbelievable.

I love that "bike lane" video.

Here's another the Neistat Brothers did about how easy it is to steal a bike in NYC:
