I'm thinking hard about not doing my race on Sunday. The forecast now is for heavy rain, possible thunderstorms and temps in the low sixties. This is essentially a "practice" race for me. I was hoping to see some huge improvement from the last time I raced it in 2008. But otherwise it was mostly just to do a run through. I have another race on June 18.

I REALLY don't do well when it's cold. We have had such a cold spring and with precipitation so much later into the year. Current water temps at the reservoir are 61. Cold just makes me weak.

If I don't do the race, I can do an indoor brick tomorrow and get right back into my regular training schedule instead of having a week of recovery.

I guess I just don't see the point in being miserable doing something that is not a goal. And it's not like I haven't worked through terrible weather in the past. My last double century was in the pouring rain. :D But it was worth it to accomplish the goal.

Debate debate... My kids are supposed to do the tri for kids... Not sure how I feel about that for all of the same reasons you stated above... I hope the weather isn't as harsh as predicted...

Hope you have a great day whichever you choose :D

No point in being miserable. Life's too short.

It's supposed to be our last long ride for TT. :( I think you can better replicate what you need indoors than we can, and if I could do it indoors I would.

June-u-ary.

I wouldn't blame you one little bit for not doing it. That will be a cold, miserable race. Having run a marathon last month in freezing rain the whole way and temps in the 50's- I was miserable and I just couldn't warm up. I can't imagine swimming in that cold water, riding in that cold/pelting rain and then trying to convince the muscles to run.
If you don't do it- none of us will think any less of you. I say go with the indoor brick and save yourself a week of recovery. Plus- you have another race in 2 weeks anyway. Save it for that one!

Indoor brick is done!

Killer bike session - much harder than I typically ride in a race. I didn't eat nearly enough - just don't think about it when I'm inside I guess.

Be glad youre not doing Escape from Alcatraz tomorrow - I have several friends doing it. Thunderstorms in the bay?! Ever thought of doing that one - sounds pretty amazing.

Nope - don't like cold water or swimming in the ocean. I make an exception when snorkeling in Hawaii. :p Such a wimp!

Skipping the race was a good plan. We drove down to Sacramento yesterday. Yuck. It was a cold, wet mess.

Yep, as I watch it pour, I'm very happy with the decision.

I hope summer comes soon.

OMG YES!!! We got 3 more inches of snow last night and it's still coming down. I'm going to cry...

you know, your area is having exceptionally bad weather. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it.

They held a tri with thunder in the area?
Yikes.
An indoor brick seems to have been the way to go.
Both of my du's this year (still no tri's under my belt - not til August) were held in crummy weather. First one was rain and 30 mph wind. The second was fog and rain. But at least the second one was warmer!

It actually wasn't that bad here Sunday morning - little to no rain, and no thunder, in spite of the predictions. I don't know what they would have done if there had been thunder and lightning.
