Oklahoma and Kansas:

Severe thunderstorms are exploding across Oklahoma and Kansas this evening. A Particularly Dangerous Situation tornado watch has been issued for southern Kansas and northern Texas.

In western and southern Kansas, several supercell thunderstorms have developed with a significant threat for tornadoes, damaging winds and hail. Severe storms are currently approaching Wichita.

A large tornado was reported on the ground near Hinton and is tracking toward Oklahoma City, affecting Chickasha..
Winds associated with this storm overturned a tractor trailer on I-40.

Missouri

A band of severe thunderstorms continues to move just north of I-70. Wind damage continues to be reported with this complex of thunderstorms. The storms may make it all the way to St. Louis by this evening.
We are predicting thunderstorms to move into the Joplin area tonight.

Colorado:
Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail and tornadoes continue to develop across eastern Colorado. Over the next 2-3 hours, the threat for damage with the storms will continue between I-25 and the Kansas State Line.

A tornado was reported after 3 p.m. CDT near Lamar, Colo.

whew-that was close. We went to the storm shelter across the street at a neighbors house. A big one was probably 5 miles away- far enough, but still too close for comfort. A few fatalities have been reported in the OKC metro area. :( Lots of destruction. Nothing like Joplin, but for the people who've lost everything it's devastating. Still praying for those in Joplin.
They've been talking this up all day, but it still scares the poop out of me when it's here and you're packing your bags to go across the street- not knowing what you'll come home to.
I'm thankful we're OK.

Praying for all those in the path of all the potentially deadly storms. Scary stuff. Be safe everyone!!

Since we were bored sitting in the shelter listening to the hail and rain- here we are. I brought the dogs but not the bikes. ;)

Tri Girl, I thought of you first (because I happened to remember where you were). Glad you and the dogs are okay.

Stay safe, everyone.

The dogs don't look worried--that's the key.

Guess I'll be sleeping in the basement tonight :(

Tri I'm so glad you are safe and your doggies too! Thank you for letting us know that all is well.

Mimi, AR will get the bad stuff tonight so check on your friend. Eastern Arkansas, Little Rock, Memphis, Indiana and a few other locations will be getting the brunt of the storm. I'll be ready to hunker down with the fur kids tonight. I'll try and post an update later when I get home.

I'm glad everybody's okay. Stay safe with the next batch of storms.

We locked the kitties in the basement today while we're at work. I feel guilty on one hand but relieved on another. It's not as secure as I'd like it to be, but it's better than nothing. I hope they'll forgive me for being cooped up all day.

There is rotation in several clouds and one is near Vilonia, AR, where a tornado already demolished the town. Early this morning the counties around us were already posting shelters that will be open today and tonight.

I know we have some AR TE'ers in the Little Rock area and I pray that they are safe. I am in the extreme NE part of the state and the storms are moving SW to NE. Gonna be a long night tonight.

Thinking of everybody living near where the tornadoes are hitting.

Please keep safe.

Hugs.

This cloud with rotation passed through near my house. Thankfully there was no damage.

I hope all you other folks in the path of last night's storm are okay. We had several funnel cloud sightings and tornado warnings. I spent a little time in the basement but we were fortunate and had no damage. The weatherman said the 3 storms over Missouri merged into one before it came across Illinois which lessened the intensity. It was still a booger!

BikeChick, glad you are ok and that your house didn't get any damage. Lucky you to have a basement! Did you grab a safety kit or a pooch on your way down? :)

It was the weirdest storm that I've seen yet. The radar had at least a dozen super cells in the region and it seemed that a tornado was spotted about every 10 minutes or so. I knew it was going to be a wild ride when the regional news station posted all the Wednesday night church services that were cancelled and all the schools that were being let out early to be available as a storm shelter.

Looks like Bloomington, IN has damage. Hope Mr. Bloom is ok.

glad everyone is OK so far. Was surprised when I saw the coverage this morning.
So far this year in only 3 storms we've had 59 tornadoes in the state. 52 is our average. And the season has just begun...
Be aware and safe everyone!

While no tornados touched down in St. Louis, we did have 3.5 inch hail in my neighborhood! I'd been out to eat and got marble sized hail there and when we got home 30 minutes later there was golf ball sized hail that had been melting in 80 degree weather for 30 minutes! I was lucky enough to only have a slightly cracked outer layer of skylight and some unnerved chickens...

Been watching the updates & texting the parents...they live in Lake St Louis (west of the city) They have been super lucky!!!

Funny...Mom texted me last night THRILLED (to say the least) that they finally managed to fit both cars, Dad's fancy motorcycle and the garbage cans in the garage...all that moments before the hail!!! They were so proud of themselves! :p Last time it hailed my Dad drove down to the highway overpass...along with about 25 other neighbors haha!

Hope everyone stays safe and the storms let up!!!

Thanks for all the updates...

Did any of you see the heavy, gray, Lord Of The Rings Mordor type clouds today? I get the feeling that our weather is not going to be normal anymore.

Ugh. I was stuck at my sister's house for 3 hours. She won't go to the basement because she has a fear of being buried alive--so I sat in the basement with her dogs (and the ipad and iphone on two different radar feeds) and yelled up the stairs. Luckily the kitchen is at the top of the stairs!

Yep. And it's so sad and frightening. It's one of the things that makes me feel really defeated, it's too late, why even try. :( :(

I saw the storm headed your way and thought about you. So glad you're okay!

Even luckier that you can get signal in the basement! I sure can't (can barely get signal in the above ground cinderblock ground floor). If we've got no electric (so no wifi), either we go upstairs for phone service or we're stuck with old fashioned radio - luckily we're in an area where there's still a true local channel that has someone actually at the station all the time.
