Today I did my first head throb ride~you know, the kind where you finish with a slight pounding headache. :p I did some hill work my face was beet red and the temp was 79 when I finished. :o So it seems that the sultry temps of summer will be here before long and the tan lines will be developing.

Anyone else have a head throb ride? ;)

I had a "jaw ache" sort of ride today, which is apparently my warm weather equivalent of your head-throb ride. I always forget how it's at least 10 degrees warmer/brighter than it appears to be from inside my well shaded apartment. Definitely should have worn sunglasses!

I had one Sunday. High of 90* - soooo not ready for that yet! To make it worse... the guys I rode with decided they wanted a hill training day - LOTS of hills. Double whammy. I *never* get red in the face or sweat much - for me it's a warning sign - but I sure had both with the long steep climbs.

Ach, we complained about the cold and rain and now I'll complain about the heat and humidity. It wasn't really hot when I went on my ride, at 74, but at 55% humidity and the rain soaked roads drying up, it was steamy. I realize this is not really hot, but after yesterday, which was 55 and raw/rainy the change is tough on me. I have really learned to deal with riding in the heat a lot more in the past 2 years, but I need a gradual change. I changed my route to shadier, which also meant hillier. I wish it was between 55 and 65 for all of my rides.

Crankin, I'm with you on that--not heat-tolerant at all, and it went from 50s and 60s to 80s in the space of less than a week. It's currently in the 70s.

I suck at cooling myself off, so I'm going to have to make sure I get something salty after all my rides now. I am not looking forward to July. I'll take 55-73...I'd like a few more rides where my nose doesn't run!

well we seem to be into the 90+/90 (90 + degrees and 90 %humidity) for the duration. Fortunately it has also been blowing like a son of a gun at 25-35 mph so I have been hitting the trainer in the garage, with the fan on full and garage door open. Guess it's about time to move the trainer and the fan inside below an ac vent. Definitely into the "if you plan to ride, get out at the crack of dawn, ride short and get off the road before 10 am season. I am not a morning person at all so this is generally not my favorite time of year.

I find if I drink drink drink *and* wear sunglasses, then sometimes the headache stays away. Sometimes.

The guys and I were just discussing this. We've been starting rides around 5:30/6pm, but the heat for the first hour is still brutal. Starting next week, we go in the morning! :D

I need to ride after work tomorrow night. Forecast high of 94. I am not looking forward to it, but at least the sun won't be too high. If it's like tonight, there will be no breeze. We shall see...

Today was our first 100 degree day this year (I think). I could definitely tell. Went to run an errand on my bike this morning, and had sweat running down my face and dripping off of my chin for the first time this year. Certainly won't be the last!

When I start getting headaches from the heat, it's usually a sign that I'm low on electrolytes. I either put a Nunn tablet or 1/8 tsp lite salt in my 2nd water bottle of the day to prevent this.

Went through 4 1-litre water bottles today. 22 miles total, riding for transportation. I really wish that stores would open earlier, while it's still relatively cool.

You know things are really bad when you start getting goosebumps on your arms and shaking. Currently riding in Singapore 34 degree C heat and it is shocking. DH was pouring bottles of water over his head and sticking ice in his shirt he was soo hot. Have decided riding after 10am is a no no at the moment. Most of our rides now start in the dark.

I don't envy you guys in the South! Last May I went to New Orleans for my first trip that was anywhere south of Connecticut. After that experience I really shouldn't complain about New England summers anymore. I don't think I've experienced heat and humidity like that in New Orleans at any other point in my life, and that was only May!

Kudos to you Southern ladies who manage to keep it up all summer. I don't think I could do it.

I caved...they raised the forecast high to 95, and I decided (after eating dinner outside last night and burning up) that I'd rather take a pass on a ride after work tonight and just run on the treadmill at lunchtime instead. I'm just not acclimated to the heat yet since it came on very suddenly - not long ago at all, I was still wearing a jacket or armwarmers on some rides.

As it turns out, it didn't quite reach the high, and by the time I would have been riding it was down to 90, so I probably would have done fine riding. Never fails with our weather forecasters here! But, there will be time for plenty more rides later, and I did get a good workout, even on the treadmill.

I plan to ride Sat-Sun-Mon so will make up for skipping tonight, and it's supposed to be cooler each of those days than today.

It's supposed to start hitting 90 this weekend. Ugh. Will be going out Saturday morning at some ridiculous hour to get my ride in.

In my opinion, the heat here in Texas is easier to deal with because it is so consistent. Growing up in Ohio, I recall having heat waves that would get to be just as hot as it does here in Texas, but would only last for a week or so. We weren't used to the heat and it was miserable.

Here in Austin, it just gets hot and stays hot. I'm unwilling to spend the entire summer indoors, so I sucked it up, took things slow, and gradually acclimated to our hot summers. When I moved here, I couldn't go running after sunup, but these days I just sort of academically note that it's hot out, and after that I don't really notice it.

You really do get used to it. I do much better with hot-weather rides in July and August than I do in May. Eventually it's just hot here every day, even in the morning, so it starts feeling pretty much normal. But we had a fairly cool springtime here, so I am not used to rides when it's over the low 80s just yet.
