Ugh...without being overly-graphic, I went on a fifty mile ride on the second day of my period, and well, lets just say that despite regular precautions, I was thankful for the chamois in my shorts! I've been a runner for years and never had such a problem, but I guess I'm going to have to either avoid riding for the first two days of my "monthly" or go for stronger protection. :o

Hmmm...that's very interesting because my heaviest day is always day 2 of my period and I rode a 100-miler on that day this month...never even came close to having an "accident". We always make a few potty stops at gas stations on longer rides, so I make sure to change my tampon at each stop and I always carry at least 2 extras with me on my heaviest days. Sorry you had a not-so-pleasant experience...and hope your chamois wasn't ruined.

It could just be that this month was heavier than usual, regardless of the riding. That's happened to me.

Some ladies like the diva cup for comfortable protection. There are threads here about it. (I think they're pretty graphic.)

I have tried a couple of the re-useable menstrual cups. The Diva Cup was too big. The Mooncup leaked...so I gave up on those. They are too $$ for me to be experimenting with further. But for long rides when it's that TOM I really like the disposable Instead cups. Plus they sit WAY high, up covering your cervix, so you can wear one AND wear a tampon. All of the reusable cups make it impossible to also wear a tampon.

Um, so what's the problem? Chafing or leakage? No need to be vague around here....;)
