I ride like 100-250 miles a week. This includes commute riding and also longer rides into my local hills and mountains. Is this a lot? How many miles to you ride a week?

Seems like a lot to me...but then again, I don't do any commute riding. I generally ride Sat, Sun, & Mon...and occasionally I might ride on 1 other day. My weekly mileage is usually between 150-200 miles...give or take. Also, once there is snow/ice on the ground...the bike is parked for about 3 months out of the year.

It sounds like a lot to me too-
My goal is about 80-100 miles a week, and that is definitely possible in Arizona year round. As long as my schedule isn't too hectic, I can do that. Most weeks I get in one 20 mile commute on Fridays, plus weekends and an afternoon or two.

My husband commutes 5 days, 20 miles round trip and then adds on extra miles to get 150 or more. But his work starts later and dress is more casual -plus he's a guy and doesn't have to fix his hair etc.

looks like I rode about 70 miles this week; 4 bike commutes, a trip to the opera, a trip to a bike store and a trip to the Farmer's market!

I rode a paltry 16 miles this week...but my best so far! 4 miles roundtrip commute to work x 2, and 8 miles for the Bike To Work Day festivities yesterday.

117.5, but will be doing ~47 tomorrow, too. My 10 miles of running seems pretty measly, by comparison. Come Summer I will probably be logging closer to 150-200 on the bike and 10-15 miles on-foot.

zero so far.

but hopefully the sun will be out next week. and we step down on the long run for my marathon training team, so I won't spend all day saturday eating junk food wishing i was taking a nap.

I did 20-something this week. My computer ate some of my miles.

Hopefully I'll be able to ride more frequently after this week--my access to my car is spotty for the week, and there aren't any good cycling routes from my house. :(

I was a little over 100, all commuting miles. I should be able to get on one of my road bikes this week since it looks like the constant rain/mist/fog we've had for what seems like forever has finally ended. So glad I got a bike for these conditions. I really needed it this week!

I would say do to the rain for most of the week I got in maybe 30 miles. And ten of that was in the rain.

I'm not sure what I did this week, but today I think I did around 25 kms.

Maybe this week, I did no more than 85 kms. Pretty small compared to what I've done in the past.

I cannot ride as much as I want, usually Sat 22 miles and I am trying for Thurs after work 15 miles. I love to get on my bike and feel the freedom and no stress.
I was so excited to get out on the road all winter but I pulled a thigh muscle over Easter in a really stupid fall and hurt my hip. I need to go for some PT. Biking makes my back and hip feel great but not since my graceful fall, but I will get there.

Last week I did 161 miles. During the school year 150-200 a week, during the summer 200-250+ a week when I am not teaching.

378, but that was just one ride this weekend. The rest was all indoor miles.

You rode 378 miles in ONE WEEKEND??? Man, I look like a beginner! Haha I want your training schedule and to be able to get up to that. I usually do about 30-50 miles every other day. I'm tired at the end of the week! 30 miles is fine for me, 50 I am tired. How do I get up to 378?

Do people include commuting miles, a.k.a junk miles in their training calculations?

Commuting miles are junk miles?

My commutes are the most intense rides of the week. Weekend rides might be longer, but they're definitely less intense. Each has its own purpose from a training perspective.

I don't consider commuter miles junk miles at all. Commuting by bike is the best way to work cycling into daily life. When I worked at an office, I commuted 28 miles nearly every day. I hardly consider 100 miles before the weekend junk.

Working from home sure does put a dent in riding! Well, you say, you can just go out for a ride whenever you want to! Well, that's what I said, too! Uh, work is busy and it would be easier to get my miles from commuting.

I never considered my commuting miles junk... at 28.5 miles RT twice a week, those miles upped my total considerably.

34 hours to be exact. :) It was the last ride in a brevet series I did this year: 200, 300, 400 and then 600k. I actually did 3 200ks and 2 300ks as well as a hard double century and the 400k leading up to this ride. I don't ride outdoors during the week at all - I rely on high intensity computrainer interval training at a training center I belong to. My long rides are on the weekend. And they are long. :)

And I wouldn't say commute miles are junk at all. They're a mainstay of my husband's training schedule.

LOL!
My computer is really prone to interference, so sometimes it'll just give me wildly inaccurate numbers (like 76mph when I'm stopped at a light, or 0-4 when I'm probably doing closer to 14-15). The inaccurate numbers (especially the low ones) mean that it's not calculating distance correctly.

WOW Congrats on the Brevet series!!!! The thing about commute miles is at least in my town of San Francisco, there is A LOT OF STOPPING. So I may ride 7 miles to work, but it takes me over an hour with all the traffic of cars and dodging pedestrians ect.

This week I rode: 30 miles on wednesday, 40 miles on thurs, 35 miles on friday, 20 miles on sunday, 40 miles on monday, 35 miles on tuesday. All at least 2000 ft of climbing per day. Wow 200 exactly! Is this a bad training schedule since they are all about the same distance? The problem is I just like to ride. I am not training for anything, but I do want to be fast if I want beat someone up the hill!

Hey, when somebody starts a thread saying "Is that a lot?" they are already trying to Rank Things, which usually goes along with needing to label somethings as Not Worthy.

Everyone comes to this forum for different reasons, but we all share an interest in some form of a bicycle. If you are racing or trying to train to compete it is nice to know what types of miles others are doing and how they quantify those miles, if you riding to commute this is quite possibly irrelevant miles are miles. Take it with a grain of salt; if you love your bike you and all your miles are worthy of everything in my book!

but I had some kickass interval sessions with Coach Troy.

I actually prefer to have my training rides be inside. It's a lot easier to focus on what I want each ride to be and when you have limited time, focus is important.

83 miles in the last seven days....the most I've done in a single week so far this year. Miles were divided among three rides, including today's 39-miler---my longest since last summer. :)

Two or three, plus hill repeats. It's been raining all week. Should be getting some more miles in for next week on Sunday and Monday, then maybe some more at the end of the week once it cools off a bit

Garbage weather kept me off my bike AND scooter (blasphemy!)

Did one commute HOME from work (14 miles) and 42 mile ride today for 56 total. Pretty weak, but next week will be exciting :)

50 for last week (1 24-miler on Sunday, 1 26-miler on Friday)

This week will probably be in 30-40 range, as it's so darn hot.

It has been extemely hot here in NW Ohio too... in low 100's all this week. We have done 12 every evening after 7:30p. It is amazing how you don't feel the heat when riding. But the effects of the heat sneak up on ya, Kinda like Vodka!

For a typical week, my commuting miles are about 65, which I only commute:D Not much time for anything else. Of course, summer time we have a few events like our Sunday Parkways.

I am cool and happy, though, cuz I've been able to commute everyday so far since work moved (12/20/2010):):p
