Trail Marker Ideas

There is a popular trail that has been closed to mountain biking. But the committee that overseas that park is now reconsidering. One of the sticking points is trail markers. They do not like painting or nailing things to trees.

Does anyone have suggestions for alternative trail markers?

4 ft carsonite posts are pretty much a standard. If you get the IMBA book on Managing Mountain Biking there are tons of ideas and solution for trail markers.

I've also seen 4"x4" posts used. Search google, search the iIMBA site, the MTBR trails/advocacy board, , there are tons of options out there.

Just kidding. I've seen 4x4s also as well as hand-made signs (national forests here seem to stick with 4x4s with the trail number branded or painted on).

I bet a boy scout or two could be enticed to come up with a manageable design for an Eagle Scout project...
