My DHs rear derailleur cable broke, so he bought the necessary parts and started by putting his bike on the bike stand in the garage. I came hurrying out and said, "Don't do anything until I get over there. I want to help!". So I mostly watched, asked relevant questions, and helped thread the wire cable through the "housing" (not sure what it's called-the black tubular plastic portions that the cable goes through). The interesting part was calibrating it and adjusting the two screws on the rear derailleur to adjust the "limits". I proudly asked him if he knew how to do this because of the Parks Big Blue Book (bike repair book) that I bought him for Christmas. He replied, "No, I looked it up online". Oh well.

Now I think I could do my own. ;)

Good job! It's so satisfying, isn't it?

Limit screws are basically set-it-and-forget-it until you replace the derailleur - even removing and re-installing the derailleur doesn't change the high/low limits. You should only have to adjust the cable length. But if the limit screws weren't set properly by the shop who built the bike, they are now. :)

@OakLeaf, that's good to know about the high/low limits. Not sure why DH thought he needed to adjust them. I was just impressed that he knew how to do it and how straight forward it was.

BTW, I see you have "Foam roller derby queen" under your name. Does that mean you use a foam roller? Just curious, because I have one that I "torture" myself on, especially my IT band in my left leg. Just curious. ;)

Oh, not as often as I ought to.

I just needed a new title. And I'm changing it again already ...

Oh, I see that. I guess that means you're "mean" ;)
