SF is having a bike to work day! Yay!! Right? Well, apparently the regular bike commuters are complaining of having to deal with all the "newbies" on the road. Such pretentious &%&%%&. If you read the short article it says nothing about this - look down at the comments section.

I ran into one of those people on my way home from the library today. I stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, and a guy on a (very nice) road bike muttered "bike to work day, yay" in a sarcastic/condescending tone as he swerved around me to illegally run the light. It was clear he thought I was only out because it was bike to work day, and I was obviously getting in the way of his perpetuating bad habits.

Sigh. I just had to get that off my chest.

I ran into one of those people on my way home from the library today. I stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, and a guy on a (very nice) road bike muttered "bike to work day, yay" in a sarcastic/condescending tone as he swerved around me to illegally run the light. It was clear he thought I was only out because it was bike to work day, and I was obviously getting in the way of his perpetuating bad habits.

Sigh. I just had to get that off my chest.

That's totally obnoxious. What a jerk.

Too bad for him that others want to enjoy the oudoors. Jerk. People who are snobs about any kind of sport annoy me. Those kinds of folks are just so into "me" it's sickening.

Totally agree with that statement! It is the zealots of this world who make it dreary for the rest of us... religious..cycling...intellectual.... etc.

Reminds me of the story "Dave and the Bike" on Vinyl Cafe (http://castroller.com/podcasts/CbcRadioVinyl/1553126-VC%20March%2027th,%202010%20Dave%20and%20the%20Bike) (audio/podcast). A bike zealot learns his lesson in a most unique way. Absolutely hilarious!!!

Was biking today and thought about this thread. I made a point to smile and/or say "good morning" or "hello" whenever applicable. :)

I run into this kind of thing occasionally when I stop for pedestrians on the bike path. Mostly I try to be all zen, but cyclists being snotty about obeying the law really annoys me.

That is so stupid that I might even find it in me to laugh out loud :D

And then I'd wish I was quick enough to shout "Ooh, look, jerk on a bike! I've heard about you guys but never seen one before!"

Kerry - I'm a huge fan of the 'Dave' stories, but 'Dave and the bike' is absolutely one of the funniest!!
