Does distilled water and alcohol really work? Is it safe?

I use some wipes I bought at Wally World, "Lens Cleaning Wipes" from Zeiss. They smell like alcohol and seem to do the trick.

A microfiber lens cloth, dampened with water, followed by a dry one. Just a dry lens cloth plus a breath to give it a little moisture, if it's only dust.

You're supposed to clean it???????

LOL. In my never ending attempt to not overthink these things - mine gets a corner of a damp paper towel if something gets on the screen, and a light wipe. The laptop will die long before I have to worry about scratching the screen. My laptop has been obsolete for years, anything I get out of it these days is a bonus.

Windex. I spray it on a paper towel and use that to wipe the screen clean. My screen gets absolutely filthy with sticky kids' fingerprints and I haven't found any more gentle approach that actually cleans it.

Eye glass cleaner with a chamois. It even takes mayo off the screen.

Ah, another person who eats at the computer. Thanks for the tip, since mayo on the screen is a real possibility here.

Thanks to everyone else, too. I obviously am overthinking this.

Windex also makes "electronics wipes" designed for cellphones, computers, televisions etc. I found them at Target

The IT guys at work like the "Monster clean kit (http://www.amazon.com/Monster-CLNKIT-Alcohol-Free-ScreenClean-Traditional/dp/B000068P8W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305342558&sr=8-2-spell)". I typically just use eye glass cleaner.

You should use an LCD cleaner. Harsh cleaners, even those found in windex, can effect the screen and cause it to break down and eventually look funny. My Geek Squad roommates say to definitely NOT use regular windex. (I'm not familiar with the windex for electronics.)

Monster cleaner is a favorite and eyeglass cleaner works too.

I just wipe the drool off the screen with a towel after I look at bike pron. Takes care of anything else that is on there. ;):p
