:(
Every morning for over a week, I've been passing this memorial on the sidewalk that has a bike in it. I just did not want to look. I could not stop. 'No time' was my excuse. Today, on my regular road ride, I decided to make a right instead of a left, and go a few miles out of the way to see this memorial.

Oh geez, 17 years old. Hit and run... very sobering, very sad.

:( oh my... so tragically sad. 17 is far too young...

Sometimes not knowing feels better. Poor young man. :(

So sad... too bad that road doesn't have a bike lane or shoulder. It looks like a road where drivers would drive too fast. Sigh... :(

That's a ghost bike. Very moving.

In Portland, OR we have those white "ghost bikes" similar to what you have shown. Yes, very sobering.
Thank you for taking the time to look and share.

Tucson also has a sobering number of ghost bike memorials.

The annual Ride of Silence is coming up soon.... in honor of all of those injured or killed by cars while riding. A sad and moving experience, but good to raise awareness.

That is very sad. We too have 'ghost bikes' in London. Too many.

Very poignant photo.

Wow, yeah, that's definitely sad, and heavy. It's really sweet of his friends and family to include his bike in the memorial, though. Respects that he really loved his machine.

@chincitop, I don't think that is actually the victim's bike. In my area they use discarded bikes and paint them white. It might be different in different areas. I volunteered at a local bike organization where they take donated bikes and if they're reasonable, they fix them up to sell, otherwise they dismantle and recycle the metal. I saw an area in the shop that had several white "ghost" bikes.

IIt breaks my heart. I hope these ghost bikes do raise awareness among drivers to give cyclists enough safe space. tokie
