Grrrrr, can you believe I came off my bike less than a foot away from where I came off last year and broke my back!

Fortunately only a few bruises, bumps and cuts but it sure shook me up and ironically, I was going off for a ride and then going to the dentist to have a tooth extracted.

I had just pushed my bike through a gate, after riding along some heathland, got back on and as I was about to push away, these cheapie cycling shorts I bought that are slightly too big, the big nappy bit caught on my saddle, which meant I had to quickly move myself forward again in order to unhitch from the saddle, then my right foot slipped on the pedal. This all meant that I had not actually started moving, therefore there was no momentum to get me up the slight slope so in a second, I realised I was going to fall.

It was the most awful feeling, amazing in only a second how you can have flash backs of a previous accident and I remember looking down on the road to my left and screaming out "No, no"................ I managed to fall in a very odd fashion but did not hurt myself too much. The chain ring gouged my right calf, the frame bruised my upper leg and my left shin managed to take the impact of the left pedal.

Generally I am not a wimpy person but this sure did shake me up, yes and I shed a few tears. :(

It has taken me several months to get my confidence back, so this really did not help. Still, I did get back on my bike and ride home, shower then drive up to the dentist have my tooth removed, finally got home in a heap and crashed out on the bed.

Today is another day and it won't deter me riding.

PS The cycling shorts are in the bin!

Recovery from trauma and injury is a process of time. Don't beat yourself up for the emotion of the flashback. I'm impressed that you're resolving to "push through" past this.

I'm really sorry you had the experience. Hopefully, it will become part of the recovery...

You will heal. I have caught myself on my shorts a couple of times, and like you, those shorts got thrown out instantly.

OUCH:eek: That made my leg hurt just reading it. That can really shake a person up. I'm glad to hear you got back in the saddle again though. It takes time.

EEK!! Glad you saved yourself from anything worse this time around, but I can't imagine how you must've felt as you were falling! Now that the cursed shorts are gone I'm sure your rides will all go wonderfully.

I know I would have shed a lot of tears in that situation! So glad you were able to get back on the bike and make it home. Hope things will look better after a good rest...

Rest up and look after yourself. Stupid shorts!

I think the psychological traumas take a lot longer to heal than the physical ones, as serious as a broken back is. Be kind to yourself. The fact that you got on your bike and road home is a testament to how mentally strong you are, as well as physically.

You're my hero today!

 Oh Clockwork.. glad you're shaken and not broken.

I think a good temper tantrum would be in order. Like only a 2 yr old can throw.

New cycling shorts are definitely in order. In a nice cheery color. Like from here: http://www.aerotechdesigns.com/wildprintspandex.htm

Not that I'm brave enough to wear them.. :p

Hope you get to feeling better!

Clockwork so glad you are okay! My daughter had a bad crash about 4 years ago and she still has issues coming down a hill.

Get a pair of new shorts! :p Dang shorts anyway! :)

Cheers for the good wishes.

I woke up with various aches and pains this morning, so had a bit of a lazy day and I went off for a sleep this afternoon and slept for 2 1/2 hours!!!

Thanks for the link for the shorts, I think the purple shorts are a good idea, they will match the bruises. :D

What I did notice was this top:

How cool is this, ashame it's only for children. :p

Thinking about getting stabilisers. ;)

My partner is now laughing at the thought of when I have to use a Zimmer frame and he suspects I will probably fall off that.

I am so glad you came through it with no more injuries than you had, and I like the suggestion of a temper tantrum. That is a great stress relief :) Glad to hear those shorts are now gone, have fun finding new ones!

Well, did you get some pain meds. From the tooth extraction? Sorry about your mishap, and don't be hard on yourself.

That had to be doubly frightening, being so close to the scene of a previous accident. I can sure understand the flashback feeling you experienced. Congratulations on being able to ride away from it. You are strong.

Yikes! So sorry about that. Having had a serious accident myself, I remember how scared I was to ride back to the scene of the crime, so I can only imagine how that must have felt. Thank goodness you "fell well" this time, and hopefully will heal quickly.

You totally ROCK! Glad you weren't hurt any more than you were, and I doff my hat to you for getting back on the bike and riding home. Three cheers for you!!!
