yesterday the SAG guy and I celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary. We went out to dinner in a tiny little hole in the wall place in a strip mall that someone at work recommended to him. It turned out to be a lovely French Provencal restaurant run by a charming, friendly, volatile and vocal madame from Paris so I got to practice my baby french and she was just delighted to let me.

We both had a pate started, lamb, champagne, and baba au rhum for desert. My mother used to make a baba au rhum that was to die for and I haven't had a good one since before we went overseas in 1993 so it was such a memory jolt that it brought tears to my eyes.

Today we went car shopping for me. Since we came back from the Netherlands in 2004 I have been driving a 2 door ford escort manual everything. We paid it off in two years and six months later the ac system gave out so I have driven it through a number of hot humid Houston summers without ac.

We have been talking about getting a new (used) car for me for two years, but now that I have the FIL to haul back and forth to the gym and shopping, without ac it has become urgent.

We ended up buying a GM clone of a Toyota matrix. It is a four door hatch back with seats that lie down flat so I can get my bike in. Plus it has automatic door locks and windows, a functioning ac, and a bonus moon roof. I will post a photo at some point.

what can I say? I am a truly blessed woman who happens to be married to her high school sweetheart and her best friend.

Congrats on your 38th wedding anniversary. Your celebration sounds wonderful (I'm a Francophile)! I hope you enjoy your new car!

Congratulations.
You never know when those authentic French restaurants will pop up in a strip shopping center. My DH took me to one for a birthday once, and I was about to get very upset with him, until I actually walked inside of the place!

Congratulations!! The dinner sounds like such fun, and a car with working ac in Houston sounds imperative! :D

Congratulations! It sounds like a delightful restaurant, it can be so hard to find them these days.

Happy Anniversary!

And thanks for the car idea. I have an 8-yr old PT Cruiser that I'm thinking of replacing - after I get my housing situation fixed. I can't afford rent, mortgage, and a car payment. I'd buy another PT Cruiser, but they aren't making any more, and I didn't have an idea of what to look for. I like the hatchback and rear seats that fold flat.

Honda Fit might "fit" the bill. Not an owner of one (I have an Element) but know others who LOVE theirs.

Congratulations! What a wonderful celebration of a wonderful relationship.

And y'know it's okay to say "Chevy Nova" or whatever the car's actual badge says. ;)

well it's a toyota matrix but with a pontiac label which gives it a Vibe label. We looked at the honda fit but since they are a newer car, they were a bit out of our price range. Since the buy back price on my previous ford escort paid for dealer preparation, registration, taxes etc. the final price was 11,357.00 not quite as low as we had hoped, but still within our range. I've attached a photo.

Nice looking car! I love red cars. I know a few folks with Vibes and they love them.
