I applied to the LBS on a whim. They want to interview me. What the heck do you wear to an interview at a bike shop? Jeans and a t-shirt seems too casual, but it's not like a suit is appropriate either.

Suggestions?

Dressy/business casual? I think I'd do dress pants with a nice top or sweater...dress casual shoes...?

Agree, business casual, but not TOO casual.

After you get the job, then you can bust out the jeans and Twin Six T-Shirts!

Btw: which one?? I know you are close to two of the local places.

And show up on your bike! Grease on the pant leg might be a plus. ;)

I think it depends on the position you're interviewing for. If it's wrenching, jeans would be fine (and an event T would be a bonus ;)). If it's sales or service writing, more towards business casual - but I'd make sure it's something you can ride in, and that you wouldn't be afraid to get dirty, in any case. It might could depend on the shop, too - what do current employees wear to work?

Nice jeans, closed-toe shoes, and a collared shirt. Very often, that's the required dress code for the non-mechanic employees. Khakis/chinos if you want to kick it up a notch.

Whatever you wear Owlie, best of luck for getting the job.

Don't forget to let us all know how you did.

...................afterthought, make sure you have an oily chain mark on your leg. :p

Having been working PT at an LBS for almost a year (minus the Jan - Feb dead time) I'd agree with Becky. Definitely neat, clean, non-wrinkly...and if sales position I'd lean towards the khakis-type bottoms even though my work "uniform" is jeans or long shorts w/ the shop collared shirt...

I can't help with clothes suggestions, other than definitely something you can ride in or work in, but Good Luck with the interview!

Good luck!

What do the shop sales staff wear? Take a cue from that and maybe go up one notch.

If you arrive by bike, take it easy so you're not dripping and sweaty when you get there!!

Once when I was stewing about what to wear for an interview, Brewer advised me, "Wear a bra."

It made me laugh and not worry so much.

Good luck!

I would say dress for the position that you are applying for. Look like you belong there!

Thanks everyone! The interview's on Tuesday afternoon. No riding there, unfortunately, as it's on a road that's 1-1/2 lanes around lunchtime! (It's also supposed to rain, again...)

I think I'm going with khakis (required a shopping trip :o ) and a collared shirt. I'm going one step up from the shop polo and jeans. :D

I'm PT in an LBS (well, not local - it's REI!) and I wore neat jeans and a Prana sweater, and closed-toe shoes - Dansko clogs. I figure if it's clothing they sell, it's probably appropriate.
