View Full Version : Seattle TE ride!

So I'm about 90% back in Seattle, woohoo!
Anybody want to go for a ride? Something nice and easy, as a few of us were chatting on another thread about being woefully out of shape.
We could do something close by, like the good ol' Burke-Gilman.
Or if we're really ambitious we could go further afield. Like maybe that Skagit Valley ride that we talked about a few years ago that never happened.
... and there's always the destination of Mick Jagger Fries in Snohomish.
I'm thinking May 14 or 15. Any takers?

I can't, I've got a big shin-dig that weekend.
But we need to have a ride!

I'm in a workshop that weekend, sorry. June is a better month for me, May is insane.

If a date firms up.... .... maybe, possibly, maybe we can come up, if it seems like I won't be in class or in clinicals. I mean, if it's convenient for everyone else, too... summer break here starts June 12. :)

I would be open to a later date. Is Memorial weekend a possibility or no? Something in June perhaps?

I'll have to look at my calendar at work and get back with you. By June (as it seems we're getting to), I'll have my road bike uncrated and refit.

Hey J! Glad to welcome you back - 95% - yea!
I'd love to join a ride too, but it'll have to be June; my AIDS ride is that mid-May weekend - in Atlanta.
And, yes, with a large section of the BG closed for a lengthy time, it'd be great if we could enjoy a ride up on the Centennial trail - then share our Mick Jagger fries find following - yum!

I think by June I will be ready for a TE ride! :)
I'm recovering from a back injury. I'm starting (finally!!!!!) to feel better. It's been a long long winter for me.

It's good to be back. DH is visiting tomorrow and rumor has it that he is bringing the weather with him from up north. So if it snows tomorrow you know who to blame ;)
What part of the B-G is closed and for how long?

Hi!!! Oddly enough this is the first time I have scrolled through this site for ages. If you keep in mind I have *not* been on a bike since I don't know when, I'm good for an easy ride. Long dramatic story that involves marathons and stress fractures but I am back to semi-activity and I'm sure I can get the cobwebs off the bike :) I've been crosstraining like a fiend so I wouldn't be completely useless. Am glad you're back!!!
And for any PNW types - I should be on my bike. I am bike adverse lately and have been on the indoor trainer but am open to actual riding suggestions.

M, I am not hardcore like you are. For running I like this gray and overcast weather, for cycling I prefer 65 deg or higher with only a gentle breeze (not wind!) to make it pleasant. I am extremely fickle and fair weather :D

Hi Kit :)
Yeah, I am a slacker. This site is blocked from work now and most of my quality internet time is usually when I'm there. I also haven't been on my bike since, well, I don't know. I would muster up the energy and chance of saddle sores, however, to ride with you all again! I do think of you when I'm down in Portland (do the marathon every year), etc. I hope things are going great for you!

Just saw this post. I would love to join you all for a ride, but am a complete newbie. Anyone else not a seasoned hardcore cyclist? I work every other weekend, so I could go provided it didn't conflict with work. Sounds like fun!

MICK JAGGER FRIES.....yummmmmmm....
Mid-June maybe?
VeganBC, this is a social ride, no fear and all welcome! Hey, I hear most of those gates on the Centennial trail are gone, so maybe I won't have to do the slow Arte Johnson topple over to the side move this time.
NbyNW, you belong here! Yay!

NbyNW

The fries are on the menu at a little place in Snohomish. They are sweet potato fries drowning in butter and brown sugar. They are wicked and evil :p

A few years ago, MM-QFC and NbyNW and I went for a Centennial trail ride. MM took us to--I think it's the River Pub---in Snohomish afterwards, and that's what we ate. Sweet potato fries in a melted butter/brown sugar sauce. After we finished the fries, we ate the remaining sauce with our spoons. My, it was good!
Looking forward to meeting folks!

Weeellll, the best laid plans of mice and cycling gals...
My bumm knee bothered me enough, and I finally saw someone here about it. Am scheduled for ACL repair next week, June 1st. Not really certain that a bike ride will be on the approved list of things to do.

I certainly hope I can drive by then! It is my left knee and I have automatic transmission, so at least I won't really need my left leg to drive. I only have to get it in and out of the car - and I was able to do that when it was in the brace after the crash. So long as I'm drug free, I'll hope to join you. I don't want to miss out on meeting y'all, and the sweet potato fries. :p

I guess we would have to figure out when we're meeting up then, wouldn't we?
How does 10am sound as a meeting time? We could then give ourselves +/- 2 hrs to go out and back and meet up with Beth in downtown Snohomish around noon.
Also, if anyone wants to carpool I can put 2 bikes on top of my car and/or break my bike down a bit and put it inside my car. 3 riders plus bikes would be a squeeze but do-able.

Fred's Rivertown Alehouse (http://www.fredsrivertownalehouse.com/home.cfm) is the place with the Mick Jagger fries. It's on First Street in Snohomish, which is one of the main drags.

well, if it is cool and rainy, then I'll bring my trusty Rodriguez and leave my Seven under cashmere wraps at home :p
When I had my knee surgery back awhile, my PT had me set my bike up in my trainer pre-op, even though I whined and whined. When I saw her @ week post-op, I proudly reported that I did get on my bike and pedal slowly w/o any resistance...she said, "good and you went backwards, right?" When I stared at her in response - she said she only wanted me to get the range of motion going, but that it was easier on my knee to pedal backwards - duh! I hope that you're healing quickly and painlessly now...

My husband and I were on the Centennial Trail that day for what was "supposed" to be a long training ride for the STP. After starting in Machias and going for an hour hollering HEADS UP!!!!!! about 50 times we gave up and went home. There were several close calls with people not even looking up where they were headed...one guy ran off the trail as I approached him and hollered "HEADS UP" in my best mom voice. :p
The rain didn't help, but we would have stuck that out... hordes of Canucks taking over the whole trail were just a little too much for us that day.
I wondered if you had encountered that group. Hope to catch up on another TE ride sometime if it happens.
NbyNW
06-26-2011, 07:30 PM
Yes, it was the same group.
The ride organizer is a Canadian company, but that doesn't mean all of the riders are Canadian.
MM_QFC!
06-27-2011, 09:07 AM
yes, we saw plenty of riders and learned that they were on their 2nd day of their fundraising ride, which started in Vancouver, BC. We had to also yell the same to alert many of the riders, as they had their heads down per the rain and/or fatigue. It was understandable and manageable as our short social ride that day was way easier than theirs!
Hope you have a fun, safe STP!
Mary
