We have had almost an entire week of rain, thunderstorms and severe weather with 3 more days of the same predicted. Now the flooding has begun and people are being evacuated and roads closed. We are under another tornado watch until midnight with severe thunderstorms heading our way. One tornado hit the St. Louis airport over the weekend and another hit south of here the following afternoon. Thankfully, no one was killed. Bike riding is at a standstill and the weather is getting to everyone. The worst flooding in 60 years is predicted and the flood gates were closed on the rising Ohio River at Paducah today. It's been a tough spring and I am so sick of rain:mad:

You can send it my way! We are in a terrible drought right now (last time I remember it raining, it was last year) and are desperate for anything. Also, my whole state is on fire and it would be really useful for that too :) So send it on down!

It's crazy. Some of us are deperate for rain (we are in the worst drought in 80 years) and would die for moisture, while others like you are drowning with too much. I hope it dries up for you. Send it my way.:)

So sorry about the tornados and floods. Saw the St. Louis story over the weekend -- stunning! I hope you and yours are able to stay safe through all this.

I wish I could send it your way. I feel terrible complaining when some of you are in a drought and could really use this. Another severe thunderstorm warning just expired and it is pouring right now. Just a torrential downpour!

We all have our issues, right? Rain is good, but not when rivers crest and flooding threatens homes and lives. It seems like someone is always bone dry and someone is always waterogged. I wish we could even it out.
We got rain yesterday (an inch- the first rainfall since last year- not counting the two blizzards we had in Feb. which only resulted in a total of 2 inches of precipitation). Anyway- it was GLORIOUS to see the rain, but it didn't last long enough and didn't even put a dent in our drought situation.
Take care, and be safe. I hope it dries up for you guys!!

I stepped out yesterday to get my first ride in days and it immediately started raining in my little parcel of heaven! Three MORE inches today? Potholes, road debris, and fphigh water will be around for weeks! It's SUNNY right now, but obligations preclude a ride...and later the weather will be ominous!

Having lived in Indiana for many years, I do hope that the weather patterns change for you quickly!
Weather here in New England has been horrible as well. Last week out of seven days in the week, we woke up to five with snow on the ground. On Saturday it snowed all day, and this week it's likely to rain for five days. So although different, I do feel your pain:confused:
I guess that's why my trainer never gets taken care of:o

It hasn't been any better in southern New England. Even when we had those horrible rains/floods in March '10, it never affected my riding. I was all set to do my first "dark" ride before sunrise, but the ground is soaked, it's foggy, and misting. I did go for a run, but I would rather be on my bike anyday.
So frustrating. I never make a big deal out of my mileage anymore, but since I rode over 3K for only the second time last year, I feel like i will never achieve that again. The weather really was glorious. When I think about it, Hirakikubou and I rode together once every week, from June until mid December and I don't think we had to change more than 1-2 days because of weather.

I'm so sick of all this rain. Here in Central KY, we're now over 11 inches for April, a new record, and it's raining as I type. Thankfully, we haven't had big tornados like other places, and my city isn't on a river/lake/big creek... But still, enough is enough. Can't plant in my garden, can't get the lawn mowed, can't get out on the bike much. And I'm having trouble convincing my elderly dog that he can't "hold it" until the rain stops...
Wish we could send some of this rain to the fires in Texas

We are desperate for rain in Texas. Almost a million acres have burned, homes, livestock, state parks have been destroyed. I have been praying for a week of rain, isn't it ironic? I keep washing my bikes, my car, going to break down and even water the dead grass hoping something will be a rainmaker!

Rain, snow, gloomy, chilly ... lovely spring we have been having here in Minnesota. Can't even think about planting my veggies, herbs or flowers yet. Farmers are a good two weeks behind and getting nervous. The only good thing about the weather is that it has been too cold to have severe storms; just rain, slushy snow and sleet. Not so good for biking but I don't envy the scary weather that has been happening south of us either. :(

we're getting our share ... Monday as I gathered my rain gear in anticipation, the jacket spoke to me as I picked it up ... it was right. Steady hard rain the whole ride home.
The pleasant music of the rain on my awnings was less pleasant, though, because I realized as I drifted off to sleep that it was not accompanied by the gurgling of my sump pump. Basement: an inch deep int he morning.
I successfully implored the rain to take it easy on us today, and the storm formed for the most part to the east of us... I'll fish around in the puddle tos ee if I can find something to trip to get it cranking again, but if not, the plumber's set to arrive tomorrow... and I know it's such a Not Big Deal compared to levees breaking :(

Just what you wanna hear, right? lol... NOT! ...I know it lol:rolleyes:...
Well, when I have been sick enough of rain, I sometimes say scr*w it and ride anyway.
I've done it on my roadie before. But, that's a bit more dangerous with traffic and keeping your balance.
My mtb and xc bike have gotten rain miles as well. There you have the fatter tires and knobbies to help. It's not a speed epic road ride thrill. But, still spinnin your legs, and getting outside.
Actually, nature is very pretty in the rain. Both plants and creatures. Embrace it for a try... and maybe it will go away:cool:.
p.s. Seriousness for the flooding and damage... really sorry about that... we had a tornado watch here in IN as well today... ugh... run Toto, RUN... (music cues with Wicked Witch Of The West riding her bike).

I finally managed to get a ride in after work yesterday before the next round hit. It was the first ride in 10 days. The sun came out and it was glorious! It was like a shot in the arm! Then the next round came after sun down. More warnings and more flooding. 11.56" for the month and many, many roads closed. I feel so sorry for the people whose homes are flooded.

Just looked at our natural gas usage for April this year compared to last. A huge difference. The average daily temperature was 7 degrees higher last year. DH took today off so we could ride; waiting for the fog and mist to clear. It's supposed to be in the 70s later, but I have an appt. at 3, then class all night. I expected to get out there at 10 AM or so, but it looks like it will be closer to 12.

Pretty much the same here... Thankful to have gotten a ride in between storms and very lucky to have been able to ride both Friday and Saturday mornings. I hope there isn't much more flooding - part of me cannot understand why people will not move from a neighborhood where they have been flooded out so often - but I also understand that home is just that - and the heart does become attached to home.

Our town has 5 rivers and 2 of them are well above flood stage and evacuations are in process. Most every road I ride is now under water. We are on higher ground and our house is ok but I feel sorry for the folks who live near the river. Farmers who have seeded the fields and will watch thousands of dollars go the way of the river flood. :( Predictions are that the flooding will break a 200 year record.
Monday night was no treat with 2 tornadoes that spawned 8 miles from our house. 1 tornado took out the town of Vilonia, near Little Rock, and those people have lost everything. Another one hit North Little Rock. I've never seen the weather so wacky since I've lived in Tornado Alley.

All of our bike routes are flooded too as are most major state highways in our area. Getting from one town to the next is getting more and more difficult as the water rises. The main river that flows through our area broke record levels yesterday (the record had been set in 1961) with a predicted 3 more feet before the crest on Sunday. The Ohio River is predicted to break a record as well.
