I wish we had a local program like this (http://www.durangoherald.com/article/20110422/SPORTS05/704229997/Durango-DEVO-pedals-on)!

My cousin helps out with this and his kids are in the program. I think its so cool! In fact, years and years ago, when I was 11 or 12, my parents took us on a visit out west to visit them. My cousin was 18 or so at the time. He was big into mountain biking then. That was the first time I was introduced to the sport. After that I always secretly wanted to mountain bike, but didn't know how to go about getting started. I think that's part of the reason I married DH. lol. Someone to take me mountain biking! ;)

At all of our mtb events, there's normally a kids race. Quite a few of the big guns(and normal folk) have kids & encourage this type of thing. The age range is 4 to 11.

We either have the kids race first thing or in the middle before the Masters/Elite/Expert classes venture off.

It's cool encouraging the little uns on

We have something called a Kids Kup with our races, they set up the course so you can do it on striders and have a training wheel race. Then a little more challenging race for the bigger kids. We also have a 10 and under division of Cat 3 usually 4-5 miles and 12 and under division that is about 6-7 miles. Not an organized teaching but cool opportunity for the kids. My team also has several juniors the LBS pays their registration for up to 6 races and gives them a jersey. Neat opportunity for the kids to get into racing while helping the parents a bit.
