My cat is nuts!

So I know several of you have cats too, have you ever had one actually attack herself in the mirror on a regular basis??!!??!! She is very old maybe she is getting senile or where she can't see very well. She really attacks, spitting, growling, swatting even lunging into the closet mirrors?!!? I'm afraid she's going to hurt herself.

Wow. Uh... I wonder if, in her golden years, she's getting a little senile (or weaksighted, or both) and she doesn't recognize herself anymore?
You might be right. I wonder if it'd be a good idea to get clear matte spray paint and spray the mirrors a foot or two up, just so she can't see herself? Then if you ever changed your mind, a razor blade would take the paint off pretty easily, too.

I know I went nuts on the links, but I've been thinking about frosting the big glass doors we have to our balcony, and this gave me a good excuse to look. :D

perhaps she is feeling a bit sprightly for a time. More than likely it's senility or brian circuits misfiring. Frost the mirrors and keep a close eye on her for other changes in behaviours.

No, not like that. I've had some over the years that would growl. I currently have one that pays mirrors no attention. The first time she saw herself in the mirror she sniffed and that was it. (She's also extremely intelligent, too intelligent for her own good at times. And we think she is plotting to take over the country if not the world.)

As a kitten my cat used to play with her reflection in the mirror so it's strange she has become so angry at her reflection??? It's kinda funny sometimes but it's also just so strange it makes me worry about her. I live in an apartment so painting on the mirrors isn't really an option.

I would get her checked out to rule out possible problems with her kidneys or liver.

Really?!?!?! They will act out like this if they are having kidney or liver problems??? Oh my, now I'm scared.

Hopefully as a senior kitty she's been going to the vet regularly and been having her blood parameters checked for any signs of problems with her internal organs (remember, well pets visit vets too!). Sometimes in older cats they can have acute issues with their livers and kidneys, although chronic degeneration is more likely. With those diseases however, you are more likely to see your cat eat less, drink and urinate more and be more lethargic. So I wouldn't get too worried about those as being a reason for her change in behavior.

If you are really worried though, it never hurts to have your vet take a quick look and listen to your concerns! There are many internal problems that can manifest as behavioral changes and your vet is there to address your concerns about your kitty, whether further testing is warranted or not :)

sorry to scare you! I was rushed so I was a bit blunt. But, it's best to check things out if they're showing behaviour that's different from their norm.
