Hello!

We are in spring (feels like summer in atlanta), and I was wondering what everyone is up to training-wise. Anyone have races coming up from that 2011 race schedule thread?!

Maybe I am just ready to talk about my first on e :p IM St. George is 3 weeks from this saturday:eek::eek: May 7th. Jeez. It has come fast! I only have a bit more of the hard stuff before I get to taper...which is good, because my legs are tired!

Anyone else getting out there now? Races coming up? It's warm enough to get this tri talk going!

First sprint of the season this Sunday. A short 1.5 miles from my house. Can't pass it up! Then I've got a long Olympic in May and July. Back down to Sprints later in the year.

Kacie - Good luck with St. Georges IM!

I have the Boston Marathon in 6 days! That's where most of my focus has been, still been swimming and biking (mostly indoors). After the marathon will shift focus to upcoming races. Plan to start the season with a sprint in June, undecided which one. Registered for an OLY July 17th and my first HIM Aug 21st.

I have my first duathlon on Saturday, the 16th. If I'm not trained enough for it now, I won't ever be! ;)

After this, I (strangely) have nothing scheduled until August, when I have another duathlon and a triathlon (a sprint...my first ever solo!).

I will definitely need some mid-summer events to keep me motivated and trained. A friend is hosting a "3 Winery Bike Tour in June" which I will do. Sounds great - loads of biking and wine drinking. Two of my favorite things! :D But...not exactly prime "training" material....

Good luck, Kacie! And to sgf running the Boston and to Hulagirl and 7rider. Give us reports when you are finished, ok?

I am training for the Memphis in May Sprint which I hope will be my first completed OWS, several local sprints and an Olympic later in the summer. I've also signed up for the Rock N Roll St. Louis HM in October and am planning a week long bike trip to Door County, Wisconsin in August. Other than that, just running, biking and swimming:D

I don't know about Utah, but we're VERY springy up here, still with nights into the 30s and days barely in the 50s. We have yet to see a day reach 60 degrees. Not that you can control the weather on race day, but I'd be afraid to put my little toes in the water here on May 7 ;) Here's to hoping for some warming weather in the next few weeks.

I am racing Ironman CdA, last Sunday in June, and a lot of misc stuff through the summer. My first race after that is 2 weeks later, it's just a sprint but I think it's going to hurt. ;) My big picture goal this year is to try to adapt better to warmer weather and test traveling and racing. I will be doing the LA Triathlon in October (or is it September?) and Ironman Florida in November.

I doubt I'll do anything but running races before Ironman - 12k beginning of May, a half marathon around memorial day, etc.

2011 here we come!

I have a super sprint May 1, a multi state bike race May 14, a sprint May 22, a Sprint July 24, an open water swim race July 23, and Chicago Triathlon (olympic) on August 28. I'll do some running races in between too.

I'm so excited for this year!

Wow Kacie- that came up fast! How's the new bike?

Did an 8k 2 weeks ago, going to do some cycling in California first week of May, a 5k road race when I get back. First du is May 23rd. I'm doing races every other weekend in the summer. Will do my first (gulp) half Mary ( I think I'll be calling it a Hail Mary....) in October.

Did hills tonight. 38.6km of them. It is still very cold and windy. -3 C tonight, winds from the east 35-45kph. We may get 1 cm of snow on Sunday. *sigh* I keep telling myself that this weather is making me mentally stronger....

7rider and sgf- both competing this weekend- have way too much fun!!

I'm ready to rock and roll! :D

Did our Pre-Tri Mini Tri this morning (basically we do everything like a real triathlon, at location and everything with all our gear - but we only swim, bike and run for 10 min each) and had a blast. I'm so ready. My hip is still a little wonky and I'm not quite 100% due to the norovirus this past week - but I'm as ready as I'll ever be.

I'm hoping the winds will stay out of the west which means the ocean will stay somewhat calm and jelly-fish free. Today it was clear and just beautiful - ripples of white sand below me. I felt like I was flying. I love swimming at Kailua beach, but only when the winds are out of the west! :D

T1/T2 sucks though. We have to run with our bikes for a quarter mile! Then mount. Then do the opposite on the way back in. Yikes! And we have a quarter mile run on the beach just before the finish. Oh well...should make for a very sloppy finish for me.

Good news is that my sausage suit (my 1 piece tri suit) isn't as tight as it was last year. Might have something to do with the 6.5 lbs I lost this week due to the sickness! Oh well. It will be back I'm sure!

Have a great weekend everyone. I'm hydrating and resting up for the early morning start and swim/bike/run tomorrow morning!

I have my first duathlon on Saturday, the 16th. If I'm not trained enough for it now, I won't ever be! ;)

Congrats on your great race today in rotten conditions.

Regina took 2nd place in her AG, in her first multisport race! I trained her well ;)

I can help you fill in that calendar; a race a month?

Can you be ticketed for BUI? Where will this be?

Thanks.
Ha! t won't tell you all how many there were in my age group....(but there were more than 2!). This race - my first solo multi-sport race and first duathlon (other than in training with my club's run-bike-run workouts) was a huge learning experience. I would have preferred a lesson held in more ideal weather conditions, but lessons come as the come - sometimes you can't pick and choose! Looking at the results, I was up against some smokin' fast runners. I held my own on the bike, I think, but the run times were just crazy fast. I did as expected for my own ability - but I was definitely in the rookie league there.

Can you be ticketed for BUI? Where will this be?

Not sure I want to find out about BUI. We'll have a SAG van or two following behind (non-drinker) in case you find wine(s) you like a little too much! ;)
It leaves out of Poole's General Store and heads up into Northern MoCo and around the Sugarloaf area. I know of one winery up there - I didn't know there were 3.

7rider-
If the condtions for your du are anything like what I ran in this morning - sleet, hail, incredible wind- you need extra congrats and a BIG glass of wine. Awesome finish for your first. I don't think one du a month is a stretch....

Well, my first tri of 2011 is in the books. Not bad, but not what I was hoping for. My swim was worse than my worse-case predictions! :(

Lots of wind on the bike, but I did pretty well there. Run wasn't too bad, either. And I seem to excel in transitions.

5/11AG, 88/251F (rank matched my race number!)

The whole area was muddy and swampy from yesterday's rains, and the last 1/2mile of the run was uphill on a muddy trail; it was just cruel. I heard that some runners lost one or both shoes in the mud

ETA: they've posted the age group results and my run was 3rd best in AG, by far the best I've ever done in a tri! :D

YES! I love love love reading about everyone's training!

Things here are good! I had my massive-huge-stupid-long workout saturday, and I am still tired :p 1.5 hours open water swim, about 5.5 hours on the bike, and 3 hours of running. Like I said, out of control :-) Windy current filled cold open water swim, windy bike ride, and exhausting run. I must be ready, right?!

Now is when I start to get a little neurotic about every little tiny ache and pain (and I have a few right now, as you can imagine!). I also have to start doing last minute travel plans, since I have never flown to a race before!

Happy training and racing! Keep updating! I seriously love knowing you are all out there doing such amazing work!

Anyone have any good tri training this weekend?

I am hoping to get out in open water sometime this week so I can try out my new wetsuit. Otherwise, I am tapering!

Dropping off my bike to tribike transport today!

Kacie-When do you leave?

I did bike hills on the weekend. 12 X. Up and down amounted to about 55km. Last night I pre-ran 5K run course I will be running after California. It is s-l-o-w-l-y gettting warmer. Bugs were out. I was deluged by tiny gnats on that run - they were in my mouth, eyes, plastered to my moist neck and my shirt. MMMM, protein! Supposed to rain for the next 2-3 days. If it's not too bad, will take the bike out. If it is a deluge of biblical proportions, I guess I'll be putting my bike back on the trainer!

I got to do my first longer ride outside last weekend. Ahh, that was nice! My legs took it well, my neck and shoulders were a little tired but all in all it was much better than I expected for 3 hours mostly aero.

I usually wear 2 pairs of shorts for Ironman (tri shorts and regular shorts), but I'm debating it. If I can find a good pair of tri shorts whose grippers stay in place, I'll probably just wear them by themselves. I wore my Zoots this weekend and one of the legs wanted to roll. But... my butt didn't hurt any more than it does when I wear 2 pairs of shorts. I guess past a certain point, you just don't care anymore. ;) Makes it easy to find your sit bones? :p

The run on Sunday in warmer weather (we're talking 12-14 miles in 55-60 degrees here, not "hot") was ... bleh. I sweat so much, so salty. I usually do my long runs later in the day on purpose - realistically, I'm not going to be off my bike for 7 hours into the day, which is 2pm - but it's going to take some adapting as the weather actually turns to spring.

Back to raining... rode on the trainer today. Supposed to be nice again this weekend, I'm looking forward to it. I've been doing my non-swim-training at all hours of the day - running at dusk or at lunch, biking late at night. However you get in the miles is how you get in the miles...

Also, I'm very excited to see our forum's first Ironman adventure of 2011 soon! :D

I hope you have a great race Kacie! Wow it is coming up fast!. I have some friends racing IM St Georges so it will be fun to watch all of you!
I have had a weird year so far..Training has been inconsistent..just life stuff..I realize now how lucky I was last year to just be able to train with none of the other stuff getting in the way..you all know I am sure..the usual work and family commitments. My first 1/2IM is coming up in 4 weeks! Yikes! I hope I can get it together before then- i hate feeling unprepared going into these things..I think I have still enough time to pull something together for IMC as I would like not just to complete it but improve my time from last year.

Thanks!!! Thanks for the blog follow too  Glad you like my crazy little adventures!

I logged my last "real" workout yesterday. 45 minutes open water swim, 2 hours 45 minutes on the bike, and about 45 minutes of running. Finished the 4+ hour workout with my friends, and felt like we had just gotten started. That is a GOOD feeling a week out from IM! 4 hours should feel easy at this point--I know that sounds nuts.

Now it is time to really honestly rest. I have dinner with my training partners and coach on Monday and we fly out wednesday.

I am not really sure how this race is going to turn out. There are SO many factors going on. Cold water, climbs on the ride, wind, heat, climbs in the marathon--AND my training cycle started late due to injury from that 50K. BUT--my recovery between the huge workouts has been awesome, and I might just be ready for a really good race. Who knows?! To be perfectly honest, I just want to see that finish line. That is a really really really good place!

I will put up tracking stuff soon!:D:D:D I actually have to grocery shop for my weird carb deplete/carb load that I swear works for me, and start to pack!

My training since October has mostly involved injuring myself again and again. For the most part it's a new injury every time. The exception is my ankle/foot. I just can't seem to make the 5-fingered shoes work for me. I'm so disappointed; I really really wanted them to work because I heard such great reviews about them. It seems ridiculous that they don't work for me, after all, I wasn't born with shoes on so barefoot running should be able to work for anyone.

I got a book called "Daniels Running Formula" and it says that the best runners aren't necessarily the fastest. They are the ones who manage not to injure themselves at critical moments. That rings true!

Sounds wise. We're not all built for speed.

I bought Five Fingers but have never had the guts to actually run in them. I've been working down to progressively lighter running shoes and everything is going so well right now I'm afraid to screw it up.

I had an awesome training weekend :)

Yesterday I did 4 hours of riding, followed by a 1.5 mile brick run. Then today I did 30 minutes of open water swimming and a 7 mile run.

The biking yesterday really beat me down, but the running today felt SO great! :D

Now that the marathon is over I am starting to bring my swim and bike volume back up (we had tapered both down a bit in the weeks leading up to the race).

This weekend Sat was 2000yds in the pool and 25 on the bike.
Sunday was a 7.6 mile run then 16 mile recovery ride.

I think I took it a little too hard on the run and re-aggrevated my left glut/ham which has been bothering me for about 4 weeks (2 weeks before the marathon), I thought it was almost better, but guess I was wrong.

Good thing first tri isn't until June 19th.
