I just got a pair of Specialized pro shoes, but I am having trouble adjusting the cleats. My left foot hits the crank arm, so I have put the cleat heel out, but it still rubs. This is my first pair of shoes that have a ratchet system strap. I never had this problem with my all velcro shoes. I can see that with the ratchet system the screw area sticks out. My solution has been to put ducktape where the rubbing occurs, which is not a cure for the problem. Please help.

What kind of cleat/pedal system are you using?

Pictures would help. My Spec' Torch shoes, the buckle is on the outside, opposite the crank, and I thought they were all that way.

Definitely position your cleats according to your knees though.

I am using Shimano road pedals and SPD cleats (the large plastic ones) . The ratchet system is on the outside, but shoe still rubs on ratchet strap. I may need wedges in my shoe since my foot curls in when I ride. I will keep working at it.
