Today my 10 year old did his longest ride ever on the back of our tandem--about 34 miles @ an average pace of 16mph (and he said he wasn't too tired by the end...not a single complaint during the entire ride). Tomorrow we are doing a 30 miler on a mix of pavement and gravel. After tomorrow he will have logged well over 100 miles in less than a week's time. Lotta power in those skinny legs. He and his dad could easily drop me (and sometimes do).

He looks like a little Schleck! :D
What's that jersey your hubby's wearing, and where can I get one? I love Herman Miller furniture.

I <3 Andy Schleck...that is awesome. :D
DH works at HM, actually. I just asked him today if they were still doing company jerseys, but he doesn't think they are. I have a different one, but the fit is sorta not great--I don't know that they ever did women's cut and I am SO not built right for most men's jerseys.

I've managed mostly outdoor rides for about the past month (though it hasn't been particularly pleasant prior to this week). Today was about the first ride where my legs seemed to remember what they are supposed to do. My first few rides were closer to 14mph and that was me working my butt off, for sure! :p
Brilliant! It looks like you had a perfect day for it too, I hope today's ride is even better :D
I'm not even going to say what my average speed is with Small Girl in the trailer.... especially on the up-hills...

I think kid in a trailer has exactly the inverse effect of kid on a tandem. Boy, do those ever make pedaling a slow and hard process!

Cool! Sounds like you guys are having a lot of fun.
We attached the piccolo to my mntn bike this weekend and did a 5 mile and 7 mile ride with dd. Those are long rides for her. We had no complaints either! Last year she complained every 30 seconds. I'm looking forward to a fun year of biking with the kids.

That's funny...last Fall we got a LOT more whining from the back of the tandem. What a difference 6 months makes! :D Now we just need the weather to stay nicer for more than 2 days. :p
