Differences between Tri & Cycling Shorts

Saw some real cool shorts ( not standard issued black) here in Team Estrogen but they are listed as Tri. How do they compare? What are the differences?

You could probably do shorter rides with tri shorts. There are some gals here who wear only tri shorts, as they have comfort issues with traditional chamois. I have a pair of PI tri shorts that I like, so far. I haven't worn them for more than 12 miles at a crack, yet, but they felt pretty nice. My sit bones are pretty tough, now, though. I'm not sure I would have liked tri shorts when I first started riding...my sit bones needed all the padding they could get, at first. :o

I guess the best way to find out is to try it out. No?
I think my seat bones might take it just fine too for I do Spin in running shorts and there is no soreness that I can tell after one hour.

BTW, my first road bike was a 2010 Synapse 5. Great ride! One of these days I need to sell her...but part of me has a hard time parting. :o
