Most everyone who has a Garmin computer has had the unsettling experience of having it fly off into the weeds ... sometimes onto the asphalt. One of my riding buddies came up with the perfect back-up.

An adhesive-backed cable tie mounting base (http://www.electriduct.com/Adhesive-Backed-Mounting-Base.html), cut down with snips if necessary to leave the barometer holes unobstructed, plus a velcro cable wrap (http://www.amazon.com/Velcro-One-Wrap-Cable-Ties/dp/B002CT8GIK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302140248&sr=8-2).

Wraps and bases usually come in packs of 25 or 50, so share with your club!

Wow, I like the cable wrap ties, many uses in mind. Thanks for posting.

We use normal cable ties & cut the remaining bits off when we do an event etc.

How do you prevent the remaining bits of the velcro cable ties from getting in the way???

I'm pondering some....

I've got a 31.6 stem and there isn't any excess velcro that I noticed. With the black side out, you can hardly see it. You could always cut it to fit.

I'll try to remember to post some pictures later ... no time right now.

Not wrapped in perfect alignment, but there's not more than one wrap - if there were, you could just cut the ends off.

Back of the unit, showing how I cut the sides off the originally square mounting base so as not to cover the barometric pressure holes.
