We've been planning the shop "Chili ride" now for many years, and it's a alot of fun! With that said, the weather can play tricks on us... we have rode in warm temps(for this time of the year)dark overcast days, and a couple of times have been forced back on trainers.

At the beginning of this week, the forecast was snow, and anywhere from 10-12 inches of it! Some started to bail on the ride immediately, others chose to come and see what we could make of the day. Needless to say, we rode trainers and had a great time and LOTS of good food!

Ok, spring we are all waiting:rolleyes:

I cannot remember a windier spring. It's keeping me in, and that takes a lot.

yesterday it was 70 degrees but very windy. Today it's snowing.

Thank goodness for weather forecasts that include hourly wind and precip predictions. They at least give me a chance to find that narrow window of good riding conditions each day.

My mom lives in Topsham, ME. When I talked to her this morning, at least she was good humored about the barrage of snow last night. I think I'd be getting a little down. Of course she doesn't cycle.

Sounds like you guys made a fun time out of it in spite of the weather!

Yes, we actually did have to ride trainers, but we had a good time. The people that showed up were part of my trainer class, so all of the trainers were already here in the shop. It was a great group of people, and we enjoyed some wonderful food... so life is good here in Maine. :D

AS of today, most of the snow we received on Thursday/Friday is gone, although we still have quite a bit of snow on the ground. The roads are beginning to clear again, so our cycling dreams are starting to appear again.

Have a great spring everyone!!

Same frustrations here in Michigan, we are having an extended winter/cold spring so far. Rain yesterday mixed with freezing rain and a little snow in the air but none on the ground. Mostly cold and dreary. 50's today with rain so that leaves riding out. C'mon spring! :(

Glad its getting better for you; we had great weather last week; but WAIT - here it comes. Tomorrow through Saturday - windy, cooler, downright cold and snow!

I'm ready to get some good weather to ride more especially since I have to ride after work all days except Wednesdays.

Sorry about the weather up there. We haven't been up in awhile, but I heard our driveway was under snow again ;)

Hijack - have you heard about the proposed surcharge on bicylce sales in Maine to "construct, improve and maintain bikeways for use primarily by bicyclists and pedestrians"? I got a note from BikeMaine yesterday as follows:

Next week the Maine Legislature’s Transportation Committee will hold a hearing on LD 1189, a bill that would impose a 2 percent surcharge on retail bicycle sales on top of the existing 5 percent sales tax. The proceeds from the surcharge would be used by the Department of Transportation to “construct, improve and maintain bikeways for use primarily by bicyclists and pedestrians.”

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine strongly opposes this bill. It would make bicycles more expensive, thus discouraging bicycle riding at a time when we should be encouraging it for health and environmental reasons. Bicyclists already pay taxes for bicycle infrastructure so the surcharge is unfair. It would hurt small businesses – namely, bike shops – and it would threaten Maine’s national reputation as a bike-friendly state.

Please contact your legislators and urge them to vote against LD 1189. We have posted talking points on our website. When writing to your legislators, pick whichever points mean the most to you and are most likely to convince them. The hearing will take place on April 12 at 1 p.m. in Room 126 of the State House. If you are able to attend, please do.

This is CRAZY! How about a surcharge on shoes for the pedestrians? Or roller blades? Or strollers?

Shefly, I'm sure your driveway is under snow,a lthoug probably melting a bit with the rain today. Hopefully the weather forecasts are accurate for tomorrow and we'll see some sun... which should finish off your driveway.:p

Yes, I did hear about the surcharge ... absolutely crazy! Perhaps it's time to tax everything that would lead to increased health benefits HA! It's the good old state of Maine, very beautiful but lots of people who truly don't have a clue HA!

More than you know since it's dirt and a bit of gravel... Sounds like mud season might be starting ;)

More snow here too.

We act surprised every year, but it really isn't all that unusual even through the first week or so of May.
