Garmin Edge 500 question...

I just got my new Edge 500 the other day and spent the afternoon configuring and installing everything. I'm pretty sure that I've got it all set up correctly, however I have one question regarding total mileage on the odometer. I entered in my current mileage to date under "Bike 1" in the odometer setting just like the owner's manual indicated. I was hoping that odometer would have been one of the "data fields" options that I could customize my screens with, but apparently it is not an option. Or am I missing something? In other words, if I want to check the total cumulative mileage for my bike, I would have to go into the "Bike 1 details" setting...is that correct?

I don't know about the 500 specifically, but that's been the case on all the Garmins I've owned.

Six data fields is as many as I can see comfortably on an Edge screen ... and they're full with stuff I want to know on the fly!
