I did my first hilly ride this year. Even though I rode a lot this winter, I figured I could leave the hills until Spring, since just riding the bike with studded tires on my flat routes was enough of a workout.

So, I decided I'd ride up and just give one a try, not expecting I'd do the second one, because the wind wasn't in my favor, and I'm probably out of climbing shape from not climbing all winter. Well, I got halfway up the first hill, and instead of my usual thoughts you're almost there, you're almost done I found myself thinking Wow, you're doing great! You're already done! I seem to have maintained my climbing legs over winter! Yay! I went and did the second hill, still feeling great.

Guess those studded tires are good for more than traction! Seem to be stronger than ever at this point in the year.

Excellent, well done! That must have felt great.

I was going to ride small girl to nursery today, but decided instead on a solo ride whilst she was in nursery. It was a beautiful morning, I did the nursery run as I want to get lots of practice on it, and I met a friend and her children at a park. Down points were my front disc brake constantly screeching (fixed now) and being overtaken by someone who then cut back in front of me to turn left, I had to brake. But it was a lovely ride nonetheless.

I just got back from a 24 mile ride with Hirakukibou, our first ride of the season together. We agreed to go slowly, but some parts were a little fast (right?). Besides the horribly broken and cracked pavement on Lowell Rd in Carlisle, it was a good ride.
When I turned off to go home, I was heading straight into the wind, which had picked up. I got in the drops in a very easy gear, and that was not fun. It was warmer out than I thought it would be and actually I regretted wearing my Ibex tights. I had to undo my pit zips!

I did the regular Friday club ride today - it was a more relaxed pace than usual, which gave me the opportunity to take more and longer pulls than I've been doing recently, so I'm pleasantly worn out. With one thing and another - injury, flu, taking care of stuff - I've been riding so little recently that I've had to start counting my miles on the commuter (17 yesterday!) just so my yearly total won't look quite so pathetic when I remember that I've got a century in two weeks and back-to-back centuries in six.

had an excellent ride today. So nice to have one now and then that reminds me why I do really love riding the bike although with all the other life stuff that has been going on recently, I seem to have forgotten or lost that love.

For once the winds actually stayed in the predicted 10-15 mph range instead of increasing to 20 mph ahead of all predictions. The temp was in the low 80's but the humidity was fairly low. There were scattered clouds which kept it from being too hot.

I actually passed a short local freight train that was poking along, exchanged waves with the engineer and got a toot in return.

35 good miles in 2 hours 10 minutes without stopping or stepping down except for two stop lights.

Last day of my spring break... I rode 35 miles with a local group. I'm too fast for the slower group and not fast enough for the faster group. It was great weather - in the 60's and sunny, not too much wind.

No ride for me. We had crazy weather here yesterday. Spring arrived last week bringing 70 degree temps. I had been riding in shorts and short sleeves for the past 10 days and then yesterday morning, the bottom dropped out of the temperature and we had snow:eek:, sleet:eek:, and cold, 36 degree rain:eek:! It looks like the cold temps are here to stay for a few days. Brrrrrr.

Oh, good for you!! You are already ahead of the season with those climbing legs. Woot! :D

A cold weekend here in NC after 82 a couple of days this week. Boo! It was in the 40s, gray, with a north wind all day today. Yeah, I'm a wimp. We did a long walk with backpacks to the markets and back (with much heavier backpacks!) instead of riding. My DH was grumbling as he would have ridden in the 40s, but I won't go below 50, unless the sun is going to come out and it's going to warm up, which it wasn't today.

Tomorrow is going to be even cooler with rain. Sigh... :(

I rode today - it was 37F and I wrapped up in a Smartwool base layer, Smartwool jersey, thermal jacket, bibs, tights and a Gore windstopper full head cover underneath my helmet and I was STILL cold! I thought I would warm up - but after 8 miles I was chilled and it was obvious that I wasn't going to get any warmer so I turned the bike homewards. Snowflakes tonight ---- ugh!

Only thing I can think is that the humidity was involved, I've ridden in the high 30s before and not been quite so chilled.

A cold & short ride is better than NO ride :D

It may be Spring on the calender but apparently Mother Nature does not want winter to end. Cold in the 30's this weekend and windy. I folded up my trainer weeks ago so I brought out the winter gear and rode. The route that I have been wanting to ride was all against the wind but went for it on Saturday because of getting impatient waiting for the perfect weather day. The gear was perfect and was not cold at all and the wind, I dealt with it and it really was not so bad. This is a new route so it felt like an adventure.

Also went out for a short ride on Sunday. I will welcome warmer temps any time now!!
