My big goal for the year was to ride more miles this year than last. I'm now over by 13.1 miles.

I had planned to accomplish this by focusing on riding more each month. So I guess technically I still need to ride a few miles in November and December. :p

I've started riding out to the BART station in the afternoon to meet Thom and then ride home together. It's a sweet route he's worked out - some bike path, some bike lane with just gorgeous pavement. I have a head wind on the way out, but it hasn't been too bad so far. It's after dark when we get home, but it's nice meandering along talking over our day on our bikes. He looks like a Christmas tree, he's got some many lights!

Congrats on reaching your goal. How many miles total for this year?

2647 miles - mostly road, some trail, some singletrack
160,000 feet of climb so far

I''m thinking 3,000 miles and 200,000 feet of climb should be doable, since I still have 2 and a half months.

Big congrats on the mileage and elevation gain. I can't even imagine climbing that much. You must do lots of climbing and love every foot of it.

Wow, that elevation gain is something else! Congratulations!

Hey, let's see a picture of Thom's rig all lit up! I finally have that Planet Bike 15W headlight (it hurts to look at it!) and I'm waiting for the Cateye 1000 tail light, which everyone says is so bright it resembles an alien spaceship. Now to get busy with reflective tape!

I dunno ma'am...........I'm thinking 160,000' of climbing should qualify as at Least another 1,000 miles neh??

No specific thread, but we've had some discussion on lights here since our daylight is beginning to fade. Over on BikeJournal there's lots of talk about lights and it seems there's just no substitute for the big battery lights (10W halogen vs. LED). When I saw the Planet Bike 15W halogen on sale at Performance.com, with an online coupon for 20% off on $75 or more, I went for it and got the light for about $70 (sorry, I don't think this coupon is valid anymore!) This is hideously expensive for me but it was the only way my family would consider letting me keep riding as it got darker. By the end of this month it'll be full dark before I leave my building! I'm always interested to see what people have done to make themselves visible. Check out Newfsmith's pics on this thread http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=4017&highlight=lights
