Trek Crash Replacement?

My beloved Gary Fisher Mountain bike was damaged beyond repair in a car wreck. Sunday night we were driving home from our race, a deer ran out in front of us, DH swerved (you shouldn't) and next thing we know we are going through a field at 50+ mph. When we left the farm to market road it was a 3-4 foot gradual drop down, the impact of it wrecked our truck fairly extensively but the crazy part is my bike was locked to the Yakima Bed Head mounts and flew off into a field. It landed drivetrain side down but the frame suffered damage to the head tube, it is twisted which makes the frame compromised.

I am waiting on insurance and my LBS is getting paperwork but I am worried I won't be able to replace it right now. Anyone know if Trek has a crash replacement? My LBS thinks so and is calling the local rep to get the details, just wondering if anyone has done it and how it went.

Oh and I am okay, DH has whiplash but we are safe. His road bike also suffered extensive damage but has not been inspected. His mountain bike just seems to have a brake rotor to look at. All three bikes in the truck were dislodged. We have taken those mounts on 2,500 mile road trips, went through a hail storm that spawned tornadoes, horrible wind storms and the bikes didn't budge. But apparently those mounts can't handle everything. :(

My bf has gone through the process with trek before. It worked really well for him. He cracked his road bike frame in 3 places. He took it to a bike shop and they did the insurance claim. Then he got a new bike. This was in about 2003?

His twin brother, however, did not have such luck. He had somehow tore the derailleur hanger off. He too went through a bike shop. He KNEW that his bike had NEVER been in a crash. Somewhere between his taking it to the bike shop and it getting to trek, there was some foul play. When trek received the bike they claimed it was compromised and broken, and then did not send him a new bike and kept his old bike. He is currently bikeless, this was probably in about... 2008?

I guess to avoid the second situation that the brother encountered i would recommend to document the damage before it leaves. Take many pictures so that if anything does happen to it when trek gets it, you might be able to prove that it was not in that condition when you took it to the bike shop. But in your situation it doesn't sound like that will be a problem.

I think that it may have been just bad luck, and that usually it is a pretty easy process.

Oh no! What a nightmare! I hope you get everything resolved quickly, and find a new bike you love as much as the old.

Will your auto insurance cover it as part of the loss from the accident? I just learned that some companies will cover cycling crashes under homeowners so I'm contacting mine today to see if my renters will covr my loss.

From what I found on Trek's site (my wrecked bike is also a Trek), they have a loyalty program, but not really a crash replacement. You can probably get a discount if you buy another Trek.
