I have problems with itchy eyes during the spring pollen season. In the past I've used Patanol eye drops, which work well. But my prescription has run out and I'm wondering if I can avoid paying for a doctor visit to get a new one. Does anyone have any experience with OTC eye drops to treat seasonal allergies? I wear contact lenses, which wasn't a problem with the Patanol because I waited > 15 minutes before putting the lenses in, so hopefully it would not be a problem with other drops.

Thanks in advance!!

At the suggestion of another TEer, I've used Similasan allergy eye drops with good success. I've readily found them at Target and other drug stores. I wear hard contacts so I have to use the drops about 15 minutes before inserting my contacts, but it hasn't been a problem. The only issue with Similasan is that they have a 30-day shelf life once opened.

I've used Opcon-A for allergy eyes, and they've worked well. They burn a little at first, but it subsides quickly. If it's a contact day, I do the 15 minute thing.

I've used OTC Zatidor drops for itchy eyes with fairly good success.

Nothing beats Patanol for me. It actually stops the mast cells from degranulating which for me works wonderful.

I use zatidor also.

Edit - I actually use generic Target version of Zatidor.

I'm glad they worked for you! I now wear permeable contacts when riding with no problem at all

...and I found them for $3.52 at a WalMart in Bessemer Alabama last year...and bought the ENTIRE stock!
