Thom put a bee in my bonnet to figure out how much time I will spend training between Oct.1 2010 and my HIM July 30 2011. October 1 is when I started laying the foundation for my run. I still have to figure the months for last year, but so far this year I've put in just under 57 hours.

It's a lot of work for a 6 - 7 hour race. :p It's a good thing I enjoy it.

I never think about time. You prompted me to look at Bike Journal (I didn't track anything last year but have been this year). So far I have ridden 93 hours 22 minutes in 2011! (1483 miles), including both indoor and outdoor training.

That's a lot of time in the saddle when you think in terms of hours.

I consider time when trying to equate road mileage to mountain mileage. According to last year's "training" log, I did several hundred miles less in 2010 than in 2009, but a much greater percentage was off-road. In the end, I figured that it was a wash....

I completely agree with that. Time is much more appropriate than miles to compare the two.

I think I'm going to actually track time this year, rather than estimating it. Makes me feel better about myself than mileage ;)

I track both duration and distance. Just started using Training Peaks in November and I really like it.

This post made me take a look at what I logged so far - about 83 hours in training miles + an additional 40 hours of other exercize (mostly skiing).

This winter I am averaging about 8-10 hours a week between swimming, running, bike (indoors) and strength.
