View Full Version : Charlie Sheen...

What a public meltdown. I'm a big fan of the show, but can't see how they couldn't fire him. Given his false sense of invincibility, I'm having trouble believing that Charlie is clean, sober, OR sane.
But, what about the media? To give so much coverage to someone so clearly unbalanced, with all that's happening in the world, is irresponsible IMHO. They have almost contributed to the spiral and have given a false message to a generation who may now believe that Charlie models the way to resolve conflicts. I'm tired of seeing it! Thoughts?

Because people want to read it...people love a trainwreck. Look, you even started a thread to talk about it. The best way to make stories like his go away is to NEVER click a single news link. If people stopped clicking and improving a story's ranking, then eventually no one would bother reporting. But given his ranking on Google News I think we're going to be hearing about him a while longer...

I don't read about him. So when I see pics in papers, I just read the headline/caption.
That's it.
I actually have never followed movie stars..at all. Maybe once a year, to see Oscar fashion on the red carpet. :p

touché :D;)
I get that...but shouldn't a responsible media be held accountable for not fanning the flames of a forest fire?

Media are only in it for the money. They'll pretty much run any story that is guaranteed to sell copies/ads. Sad, but true.

People want a diversion from the gloom and doom and what better way to do that than to broadcast Sheen's meltdowns for all the world to see. Lamestream media at it's best.

I really like the show, but if anything, his behavior could be used as a teaching tool about mental illness and addiction. He's in the middle of a manic episode, for sure. And when and if he comes down, he'll be depressed and that's when he'll start drinking again.

I cannot watch that kind of thing on the news and have purposefully avoided it. It makes me sad and embarrassed for them.

For the media it's all about the ratings and the biggest ratings out there right now is Charlie. (That is unless you're a sports fan, then it's tournament time for NCAA basketball).
But yea, the media is all about the ratings. The higher the ratings the more you can charge for ads.

If only Charlie started playing bball with USC. That would be a story.
In other news, I'm now dreaming about CS. That's how much all over the place he is. In my dream, I was on this reality show, and the object of the show seemed to be to not get annoyed by him and leave, or not get killed by his stupid antics. There was some sort of codependent enabling involved in there too. Strange dream. I suspect his exes, his kids and a couple of *goddesses* are living that reality show at the moment.
Finally, part of me, just part, thinks he's pulling a Joaquin Phoenix and this is part of a big hoax. Perhaps a hoax gone wrong.

This is one of the many reasons DH and I do not watch the news at all.

LMAO! Nice dream!!! I had a dream Tom Selleck was trying to kill me a couple weeks ago, and no matter what I did, he wouldn't die.
Part of me wonders if it's a hoax gone bad, too. He is SOOOO over the top, it almost seems like it has to be a hoax.

I think I saw somewhere that you can now download an app to block Charlie Sheen from your computer.

I heard that on the radio this morning, too.

I don't really know much about this person as I don't watch movies a lot. I have seen the name.
Just a reminder that people have been worried about celebrities influencing young people for years. Remember how upset people were about Elvis? His fans are old now. So it's nothing new.
If you aren't interested, just don't read the story! Simple as that.

Excellent post, C. Guess he's not a danger to himself and/or others, so an involuntary commitment is out of the question at this point. Poor soul, he's suffering. I feel so bad for his family and those who love him.

I don't know who's more out of touch with reality, Charlie Sheen or Muammar Gaddafi.

Oh tell me about it, so annoying how much media attention he is getting from being an idiot! His many interviews consisting with him saying, and I quote, "Come on bro I've got tiger blood." It is just ridiculous.

True, but another segment of society will see this incorrectly as an example of righteous behavior...after all, it got him wealth, women, and drugs, right? This is the problem: the more you highlight his manic episode, the more mainstream manic looks...the crash won't get equal press...
