It's been a while since we had a thread like this, and I am curious as to what some of you look like, and I've seen a lot of recent photos of you guys with your heads cut off, so I shall start with one of me and Cavalletta, my Davidson Custom Steel Bike...

The first picture is to show you my beautiful BeBe Trek pilot 5.2 who has over 16,000 miles on her and still rides like a dream in spite of the fact that I started riding seriously when I was a lot heavier
I've included a photo taken in July 2011 to record my five year 125 pound weight loss- mostly thanks to bike riding and the support of my family and my various former Marine trainers and other trainers at the gym.
The third photo is me taking our former dog Ms. Sadie for a run around the block after completing a training ride. Wasn't she beautiful? I still miss her.
A lovely rainy Jan training ride (my derriere is the one in the full length black tights 2nd from the right)

No new bike. I've had it for 3 years; well the frame for 3 years, the components are about 5 years old, switched from the frame they sold me that was too big.
I was tired. Every ride ends with the 9-15% grade up my street, depending on which way you go up the loop, and then the 12% grade driveway.
And actually, the temperatures we are having now, 45-55 are my favorite riding temperatures. You usually don't have to take layers off if you dress right and it's not too hot. Above 75, I hate, and last summer was hotter than hell.
Like my son, the Marine, says, "pain is weakness leaving the body."

Pardon the low-quality cell phone pics, but from this morning's ride:
A new pedestrian underpass opened by a high school near my parents' house. I decided to check it out (I walked my bike through it even though it was empty at the time :p). There's cute artwork everywhere, painted tiles and mosaic. That's my Satellite in front.

LPH - thanks. Hard to tell that when I was in second grade I knocked all 8 of my front teeth out at once :D.
Mimi, CC, and Jelee - riding in the snow isn't really that hard - MOST of the time ;). Around here, there are some months where if you don't do that, you just don't ride. Studded tires certainly help.
And Jelee - the tandem is FUN. On that ride, we had 5 tandems out for almost 2 hours. Terrific sight (although not for some drivers).
Emily - SO JEALOUS to see you 1. racing already (my first is this weekend), and 2. racing in shorts and short sleeves! It's still COLD here, and those temps seem a LONG way off.
CC - terrific photo from your MTB race. Looks like you were having fun!

Oddly enough..i did the "look for any rubbish" lap & I had to take it a bit easier so i could see stuff. Anywho, I noticed a few bits of trail that i didn't even remember riding a few hours before..I said to someone "I don't remember this bit from the event"....Too funny how when you're busting your behind at an event, things become a blur..;).

The Sport, 54 cm. Just rode it out of the shop today. We needed to fiddle with the reach for a while, the new Ultegra shifters feel longer than we thought. It was also a bit of a pain to find brakes that work. But here it is! And it's sweet. I went out for a 35 km ride rolling out of the shop and I'm very pleased. :)

Awesome! It sounds like you were able to go with a stock size? I had originally intended on going with a Sport until it became apparent that my desires and fitting needs caused us to base it on the Crosshair instead.
Congratulations - and looking forward to the pictures!

It is, I've put about 500 miles on it in the last 2 months. Mostly as a commuter/car replacement, it's great.

My highest speed thus far has been 45 mph - on the ride in which those photos were taken. My nerves handle up to about 33 mph just fine, then they start to frazzle. So, I think 40 will be about my top speed from now on. It could go a lot faster. I had to pass some other cyclists by crossing a rumble strip in the center of the road, and nearly flipped as I lost control and skidded sidewase. My riding partner told me as long as I hit rumble strips at less of an angle they are fine, but I wasn't willing to try it again and had to slow down behind cyclists.
It weighs about 65 lbs. I was impressed on this ride, lots of 1-3% grades up the canyon and it wasn't that hard - we averaged 12.7 mph up the 17.5 miles and 15.2 mph back down. But, it felt good, not like I was really burning to get up. According to rideswithgps, the total elevation gain up was 650 ft.
http://ridewithgps.com/users/33122/routes
I used to average 13.3 mph on my road bike commutes to work - so I'm slow by nature.

We went on a very short (14 mile) ride to an area of west Concord and back today. Decided to stop in the center, to get a drink. So, as we were sitting on the bench in the alley by Main St. Cafe, we noticed there is now a bike pump attached to the wall, for people to use. This is a big stopping place for cyclists who ride out here, from the city. Then, as I was drinking my raspberry lime rickey ( a drink evoking memories of my childhood), I saw someone I know from the health club I used to belong to. We caught up on stuff and then we rode the 4-5 miles home, arriving just as the first raindrops started.
This picture of me looks a little funky, like I have a nice roll of muffin top, which I don't, but I think it's just the way I am sitting.

Cool. I have a Klein Palomino. I love it!
There's not too many of them out there anymore! I've loved mine from the moment I sat on it. It's always been a really good fit, and it handles the tight, twisty, rocky trails here in NH so well.
It did have shifting issues when I first got it, but I took the big ring off, put on a bash ring and shifting issues solved.
There are problems getting parts, so if anything goes massively wrong, I'll have to look for a new bike.

goldfinch-I really love your folder! I've always wanted one. Are there any major differences between the folders and solid bikes?
There are big quality differences between folders, as there are with any bikes. Mine is an inexpensive seven speed folder, but it seems well made and it is lightweight aluminum. Some of the cheaper folders weigh too much.
I don't like it for anything but short distances. Probably it is because of the upright riding position. At first, it felt twitchy but I got over that with familiarity. But it is convenient to toss in the car and pull out to ride. This particular folding bike really folds easily and even can be wheeled when folded.

DBF took a bunch of photos for publicity today (even though my road bike is already shipped off-- I used my mtb instead). It's a sweet ride, although I can't stand riding it on pavement. Gotta seek out a trail tomorrow!

I was having trouble with this last night, so *fingers crossed* that this works.
Me, with my bike, which does not have a name, after the second trip up the hill we climbed 6 times for a short workout last night:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jXliGysDs8Q/T9tOJs1VVFI/AAAAAAAAGuk/pQ736q7BVms/s640/june%252014%2520serious%25202.jpg
And this is me on the 5th climb.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-U2jcmDVjy2Q/T9rNPULousI/AAAAAAAAGuE/DF-X6wPX8og/s640/june%252014%2520climb2.jpg
It's not that big a hill, but we're still new at this so we thought it would be a good evening workout. So did about 20 other people. It was kind of fun to see all the people out there climbing and running up the hill and back down.

That's me before the National Championship XC Marathon. 62 km to go with 2550 m ascend... had a flat tyre (30 min lost), and a problem with directions (about 10 min). Very hard but very beautiful ride. I'm so happy I won it :)

One is me and my BF out on a ride. Everything was dead last summer and we found this one little spot of greenery with the pond and lilies in the back ground :-) It was a fun day for us both.
The other is me out in the middle on nowhere waiting on my Mom to come get me. I ran out of play time and we had to get going to do all the 'other' stuff (not cycling). Geez where are her priorities :p

This is a pic of when I came back from my first ride of the season, last Sunday. All of that snow is just about gone now. Don't know why my helmet looks so pushed back on my head, I think I must have moved it as something was bugging me when I stopped riding.

Here is me 2 weeks ago - the jacket is an extra-large so it always makes me look much larger than I am... It was great to be out in shorts - and was my first ride since just before Christmas.

I still love that crazy bike. I look around sometimes wondering what I would replace it with but then I stop because I still love mine more, LOL. Maybe my big 'change' will be upgrading components and keeping the frame and everything else as is.... and new bar tape :-)

I understand. I still love my Bianchi. My attempt to improve upon it--with custom Ti--was an abject failure. I just never got comfortable on it. So the Bianchi it is. I might get it repainted next winter. The current paint job has seen better days. But I doubt I change the color (it's called bleached celeste). I've always been partial to it, and it's in keeping with Bianchi's traditional celeste.

:D You made me laugh! I am SO resistant to replace my much too large cycling jackets... Perhaps next year, they really do swallow me up and the hydration pack doesn't help. My winter jacket is even larger :o

Here I am picking up my lovely new Jamis Dakar XC from TE gal Catrin in Indianapolis just this past weekend:

I have not gotten to take it out for a ride yet, but my DH got it re-assembled for me today and set up the saddle height. It seems like it's going to fit me perfectly, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Thank you again, Catrin! It was a pleasure to meet you! :)
(Ooops -- looks like I need to update my sig to include it...)

Emily - I am SO glad that it fits you so well and that she has gone to a good home! As much as I loved that bike it was always a touch small for me, but there are reasons why I went for a smaller size. It was great to meet you, your DH and your dog who REALLY wanted to rush into my apartment :)
I also forget just how red my hair is until I see a picture!

Heheh, and I forget how light mine is -- used to be much browner. :D
Yes, this bike is the perfect size for me. I actually needed the saddle up at least as high as you had it, if not higher. It's a gorgeous bike, and I can't wait to ride it!

Sweet! For me it actually needed to be at least 4 inches higher for non-trail use...which is why it has such a long seat-post. I am so glad that you are happy with it and looking forward to hearing about your first ride!
I've thought about going with a darker dye, but the red works and it is dangerous to start mixing colors. The last time it became a lavender-purple-pink color...that wasn't my intention ;)

Thanks, JoAnn!
I finally got the Jamis out on a 20+ mile utility ride today (to Wal-Mart and Natural Grocer), and it rides like a dream. Although I really bought it for unpaved roads and trails, I am realizing how nice it is to have a fullie for the urban roads here in the Kansas City area, with their many cracks, potholes, and areas of uneven pavement. I've been riding my Trek until I got slicker tires on the Jamis, but now that I have that, will ride the Jamis a lot more for our in-town rides. It fits like a dream, is super comfortable, and gorgeous to boot. I am one lucky lady! :D
