So it's the sunday before super bowl and we'd had some pretty cold stretches. I decided I'm gonna ride my rollers since i'm too wimpy to ride outside. Since it had been so long i made the mistake of wearing my road shoes. anyway, the bike slid off the rollers, i couldnt unclip, i landed on my hand on the tile floor in the kitchen. Broke my thumb, had surgery to put in two pins, I'm out for 8 weeks. Off work, off my bike, bored, frustrated, can't DO anything.

Whattaya suggest?

a recumbent stationary bike? So sorry about your thumb. Rollers do scare me. Get well FAST

Bummer. :( Stationary trainer, hands free, just to keep the legs rolling over? Or time to work on core/flexibility? A physio would have some ideas on ways around it.

Oh man. :( Hope you heal quick.

Did I mention I hate tile? And that anything I drop on a tile floor, shatters?

I will admit that the title made me think "wow! That must be one BIG kitchen!":)

I've often wondered what I'd do for exercise if I broke a leg...but I'd go with the stationary recumbent or intervals on an elliptical machine (with no hands to improve balance)

sorry to hear...that really stinks. Maybe you can get your hands on a trainer so you can ride without having to balance the bike. I did this when I fractured my shoulder years ago.

That sounds like a really bad break. I hope you're not in pain. For exercise, how about walking or running?

Bad Luck Pink. Hang in there; it is always so hard to stop when something like that makes you stop!

Go for some hikes up the mountains around your home.

I'm really sorry that you are suffering but I had to chuckle at the title. I guess you can't guarantee being safe even if you stay off the streets!

Actually, they do say that most accidents happen at home, right?! Rollers = challenging; I never dared to try them when my DH had some.

So sorry for your mishap, PinkBike. It sounds painful and annoying. Hope you heal up quickly!

I've considered rollers from time to time but the idea of crashing makes me hesitate.

Feel better . . . and look on the bright side--no road rash!

Maybe get a roller fork for now?

I've only tried rollers in a hallway where I had a wall on either side to grab if things went wrong.

I prefer my trainer, but my riding could probably use rollers to smoothen out my stroke.

Sorry about the thumb, Pinkbikes.

Me too.

Mu cousin used to have a kitchen big enough to ride around. In fact, you could have driven a truck through it. (Not sure what her ex- does with that big space now--grumble grumble grumble...)

Sorry Pink :( I hope you get better soon!

As per workout suggestions... if you cannot use your hands, can you put some aerobars on your bike so that the weight is on your forearms/elbows and ride on a stationary trainer? That would allow you to get your bicycle training done if you like - without putting pressure on your hand and thumb...
