I agree. I snow shoe in places I would never hike. I hate the open, high up , narrow feeling you describe. I think that is what impacts my descending on the bike, too.
I have had the uncontrollable shaky quads you describe skiing down narrow, icy trails where I felt I didn't have enough room to execute good turns.

Still, I'm sure you are a better x-country skier.

I just never learned proper technique. But at this time, I'm not sweating over this since there are other substitutes for good cardiovascular winter workout on the snow. :)

Dearie used to do lots of downhill skiing....in Europe..in the Alps several decades ago.
