It'll be 6 months at the end of Feb. I got the word from my cardiologist that I can go off of the coumadin in 3 weeks. Yay! But... no more swimming except for splashing around in the pool. After talking to some docs who put in lots of pacemakers, he really thinks it was the movement of the swimming that caused the clot in the first place. (The clot was in my subclavian vein where the pacemaker wires are.) So, no more tris. :( I guess I'll be looking for du's this summer.

I'm bummed but I'm happy to be going off of the coumadin.

Anyone want to buy some wetsuits? Seriously.

Congrats on clearing the clot - that's great news!

Having to be on the coumadin stinks, but at least it was only 6 months (that what I kept telling myself). And I'm sorry you won't be swimming anymore, but it's certainly better than the risk of more clots and permanent coumadin. So go out there and enjoy what you can do - with normal blood flow! :D

What MP said. It's definitely good news/bad news and it's okay to be bummed in the middle of being happy. Enjoy your new duathlon career! :)

Plus the duathlon season is much longer and the events are usually a bit cheaper. (Trying to look on the bright side here.) :)

You could always do a tri as a team too. That could be kind of fun.

Really, though, it's awesome that you will be off the drugs.

Thank you all for the support! I guess I'll be picking your brains on du's. Or maybe I'll let my SO talk me into playing tennis this summer. :p

Getting off the coumadin is great news! I'm sorry about the end of your tri career though. That's a tough one but when one door closes, another opens. Maybe something positive is in your future.
