I hate fake pockets.

Why do women's clothes have them?

And why do blazers and some pants come with real pockets that are sewn shut? Maybe I can understand that... one doesn't want the gapping of a real pocket, the next one wants a real pocket and doesn't mind the gap.

But fake pockets?

C'mon! I want real pockets (even if basted shut) or none!

Just got the most amazingly fabulous skirt, with 2 fake pockets and no real ones. I'm a bit grumpy about that.

You're not going to wear it with UGG boots, are you? I seriously don't get that fashion trend.

I do not wear UGG boots.

I wear something like these: http://www.zappos.com/clarks-aguila-bay-brown-leather.

Or something like these: http://www.zappos.com/ariat-heritage-roper-black~1

Or sandals when it's warmer.

And I want functional pockets in my skirts. Not fake ones. Basted ones that I have to snip open are fine.

My favorite pair of jeans is rather rock-star looking, with this big embroidered part across the butt and upper thigh. Unfortunately, they embroidered the back pocket shut. It drives me nuts that I can't put my phone in it.

I hate fake pockets.
+1. I've always envied men's suits - better fabrics and useful pockets.

Fake pockets=bad.

Roxy, I have 2 pairs of Uggs. They are not so traditional Ugg looking. The first pair I got on TE about 7 years ago. They are short ankle boots I wear with pants, dark brown leather, with a hard soled bottom. They don't really look like Uggs. The second pair I bought myself for my birthday. They are calf height boots with a pretty high wedge heel. You can roll the top over for a "fur" trim or not. I wear these with skirts, at work or for going out when it is really cold.
The reason people wear Uggs is because they keep your feet incredibly warm. You don't have to wear socks. In fact, I can't really wear them all day, because my feet get too hot. But, for running around when it's 20 degrees, they are perfect.

I always thought that when real pockets were basted together, it was so they'd hold their shape during transport and display, and you were supposed to open the stitching when you bought the garment.

I've never worn Uggs, but I used to have a pair of Acorn sheepskin house slippers, and yeah - what Crankin said. Imagine the softest wool base layer you have, then make it springy and floaty and even softer, and encase your feet in that feeling. Wow.

This is what I've always heard. Same thing with pleats or vents in skirts.

That said, I totally agree: fake pockets stink.

the lack of pockets in women's clothing has been a pet peeve of mine for a long long time.
Fake pockets would frost me as well.
Where i work, I can't possibly carry around a purse. That would be totally ridiculous. So if I don't have good pockets, I can't carry stuff. period. DUH.
now on the bike. POCKETS we need pockets. At least women's jerseys have rear pockets now.. I have a pair of tights with a tiny tiny pocket, big enough for a folded up 5 dollar bill or a key. What are they thinking? owell.

Ha, Oakleaf, I have those Acorn slippers. In fact, I am on my second pair. I can't believe I wore cheap, terry slippers for so long. I put them on as soon as I get in the house.
Yea, I am never quite sure what to do with the sewn together pockets, on let's say a nice pair of wool pants. I also thought it was for when they were hanging on the rack. Then, if you snip the threads, they look funny and gap.

I have to agree. I have disliked the fake pockets of women's clothes ever since I was a little kid. Why did my brothers have real pokets and my clothes didn't? That was not fair.

So my solution has been to shop where the clothes have real pockets such as the men's department, LLBean or other places like that. So if the clothes do not have real pockets they will not get my money.

I hate fake pockets too. I have a whole bunch of em on a beautiful western-wear vest I purchased from Sierra Trading Post. I keep trying to get into the pockets to put something in there and it makes me look like a dweeb!

I hate those fake pockets-- what are the manufacturers thinking????

Another gripe: pockets that are there, but too small to actually be useful. It does make sense that now that I'm wearing much smaller sizes, the pockets on the back of my jeans will be smaller too-- but can't the hip pockets be deep enough to at least securely hold some keys and change???

I meant the fashion trend of wearing short mini-skirts or really short shorts with winter boots. I wasn't clear, I'm sorry. I have nothing against warm tootsies.

At the bike race on Sunday, I saw this young woman with a weather-appropriate tank top and ripped-hem denim miniskirt with bare legs and these big, funky winter boots on. It was 80 degrees outside! And I've been seeing that same trend a lot this past week. Or maybe I'm just now noticing it. It just looks incongruous to me, to be decked out for summer on top, and ready for winter on their feet. And they're not even fashionable boots a lot of the time. I just don't get the trend.

I also don't understand these boys who wear their jeans pulled down around their thighs with their underwear showing. I mean, really, what are they trying to say with that?

And the girls with the really short shorts who wear their zippers half-way down with short, cropped shirts.

Geez, I'm getting old. I sound like my mother.

Yeah, I don't get it either. And I actually live in a climate that justifies Ugg boots.

I have a couple pairs too, but more like the styles Crankin described. I have been tempted to buy the classic style but so far I've resisted. It helps that I keep thinking I can get them much cheaper during my next trip back to the States. And then when I'm home, I look at them in the store and realize that I don't really want them.

It's like a clothing mullet. I'm right there with you. Damn kids, get off my lawn.

Pockets! Fake pockets are super dumb. And women really get short-changed in pocketland in general. I've never had a pair of jeans that would fit a wallet. I have lost more $$ than I care to admit by carrying it around in my pocket.

And while we're at it, how about putting some inside pockets on our jackets?
I swear I've looked at even cycling clothing, two identical versions of a jacket, one for men, one for women, and dangit if the guy's jacket has a million cool pockets, and the chick's jacket has room for ID and bubblegum.

Don't get me started on surfing rashguard incongruities.

That. You're supposed to take the basting out :)

The fakest fake pocket I ever saw was on a down coat--the coat was yellow with bright color block accents (Remember the 80s?). There was a purple 0zipper pocket--except that the purple zipper was on a flat rectangle attached to the coat with Velcro.

Stupid stupid stupid.

At least I had a toddler who liked to play opening and closing the zipper.

I see the mini-skirt and Uggs trend here a lot, sometimes with some kind of tights. And then they complain about being cold. :confused:Hello! If it's cold enough for Uggs, it's cold enough for you to wear pants.
Also: I don't care how skinny you are--tights are not a substitute for pants. Unless you're riding a bike, of course. ;)

I really don't like that women's clothes have no pockets, or non-functional pockets. I hate carrying something extra for my keys, wallet and phone. In the winter, it's not a problem, because I stuff everything into my coat pockets (which still somehow have room for my hands).

Tangentgirl: DBF and I have coordinating jerseys. His has three pockets plus a zippered one. Mine just has the three. (What bugs me is that in a lot of places, the description was the same for both.)

The first time I saw a girl with the halfway-up zipper thing going on, we were at a water park and I thought she'd just not finished dressing. She was about fifteen and I was about to stop her and whisper that she'd forgotten to fasten her shorts, but then her girlfriend had the same style going and I realized what it was. Shocked me into silence, I have to say. Sexy is one thing, but geez. Skanky is never attractive.

Oh, maaaaaaaan.... I was counting on that!
Guess I'd better zip up my pants and pull that strand of toilet paper out of my waistband.

OMG, I am so out of touch and spend NO time with tween girls (and almost no time at malls), that I actually hadn't seen this trend. I have, however, seen the thong "floss" that shows outside the top of jeans, which I guess is similar. Just don't get it!

I have also seen the Ugg boots with short skirts or shorts; I live in a college town, so they're very popular. I don't have Ugg boots. Actually, they look comfy.

I am not a fashionista & am really really confused about the prositute look..Really really really short skirt, sexy top & the horrible high heels that remind me of the 70's..on a teen..i think it was a teen..

Someone want to explain this to me???? I walk around in sports type shorts and t shirt thinking i'm the one with the fashion issue...:o:rolleyes:

Sorry, about fake pockets...perhaps the manufacturer needs to buy extra material or something stupid like that..

I like the short skirt and Uggs look, but of course my short skirts aren't of the skanky variety.
I don't get the underwear showing, either. This trend has been around since the late eighties, as I remember having to tell my students to pull up their pants when i lived in AZ. And the unzippered short shorts? Well, I never saw that at school, but I have seen it on the street. Frankly, I wear thongs so my underwear doesn't show.
My pet peeve is people who go to work with cleavage showing. Now maybe I don't like it because I don't have any, but I think it's quite unattractive under any circumstances. One of the other interns is in her early twenties and it amazes me how much she shows. A therapist should not be dressing like that! But, I know to her, that's the way you dress and she doesn't see it as "sexual" or skanky. I wear camisoles under some of my low cut sweaters or dresses and I am constantly making sure that the camisole is up high enough!

I do have one pair of Uggs - but they don't look like traditional Uggs. I would never wear them with a skirt or shorts, but they look fine with slacks or jeans and I've no problem wearing them to the office. They are WARM, even for walking around downtown Indianapolis in our current Arctic temperature spell...

boy me too. Why do people think we want to see t heir cleavage? how did that become attractive? Why on earth do girls/women think they have to display their private parts? I guess they aren't private any more are they.

And all you UGGS people, you don't have to feel guilty about wearing them, just be sure to pull up your zippers !!
