I heard that walking hills works the hamstrings and butt so I put my treadmill on hills and have been doing around 2-3 miles at a pretty slow pace and I dunno if it's my imagination, but I think I can tell a difference. Anyone else work this area of the body? Have you used this exercise? What results have you gotten?

Yes, my hammies respond similarly well to walking hills... anything that gets you to flex your leg repeatedly and with resistance (i.e. gravity) does. Results: my butt seems a little more defined where it meets the back of my leg. And I feel stronger when cycling up hills!
As Caligurl suggested, deadlifts work well, too, though I find they seem to work my butt more than my hams. For hams specifically, I sometimes do an exercise with a Swiss Ball, here's a link that demonstrates it well:

Or if you do yoga at all, the bridge or half-bridge pose is also a really good ham burner (builder), especially if an instructor makes you hold it for awhile! Here's an illustration of full bridge:

Thanks so much RedCanny! I was looking for some variations on this exercise. I lifted free weights in my 20's, but after being dx'd with MS I don't feel safe with the free weights and my balance. I have been thinking about getting a ball because it looks like it would be fun to do core training on. I don't like doing core training exercises so I need something to make it fun.
Thanks again for the websites. I book marked them :D

If you get an exercise ball, you can do hamstring curls on it. Just lay tummy-down on the ball put a light weight between your feet and curl them up. Not only will it work the hammies & butt, but also the inner-thighs because you're clenching the weight between your feet.

I bet it would work the core too, trying not to roll off the ball
What a thigh and butt burn... walk some... and then do walking lunges.
Look up proper form on the Internet... protect your knees with proper form.
Start out doing 10 on each side... so you will be walking and alternanting legs.
Try to do 3 reps of that. You can walk some and then do your set. Obviously, get off the treadmill to do the walking lunges sets.
Trust me... you will FEEL IT the next day in your hamstrings and butt! This will work 100 times better and quicker than walking hills on the treadmill.

Regular deadlifts have more of an affect on my glutes.
To hit my hamstrings I do stiff leg deadlifts.

Emphasizing the pull phase on the bike is good as well.
BTW Sportster up here is a spammer.
No wonder he/she pulled out a thread from 2005......

I have read that fitness/race walkers have the best hamstrings and buttocks. :p

I think he's a Nigerian prince who needs your help.
