Yesterday we drove up to Truckee to ride Emigrant Trail with SadieKate, who was celebrating her "35th" birthday. Yellow joined us - her last California ride. Bubba, Thom and Robblog rounded out the group.

What a great day and a nice trail! It's about 11 miles long, ridden as an out and back - a great trail for strong beginners with enough technical bits to keep more advanced riders happy. There are places where you can choose to catch air or not and a creek crossing. Sorry Sarah - you were blurry in the photo. The trail crosses several ridges. None of the climbs/descents were super steep. And it is all single track! Not something we have much of around the Bay Area. The trail ends at Stampede Reservoir. A lovely place for a bite to eat.

I guess I have to get me a pair of these.

Nobody crashed and the local bike store was having a great sale. Too bad it's just so dang far away!

I've practiced this turning 35 thing 12 times now and I might have found perfection yesterday. I might have to try again next year to be sure! Maybe my big air picture will be clear. ;)

For those who want to know, the trio of TE girls is, left to right, me, Veronica (aka Princess Zippy) and yellow. I also have no explanation as to how all the boys ended up in yellow. Must be a chromosome thing.

Thanks for the pics, as always, P Zip, and for making the long drive.

I've practiced this turning 35 thing 12 times now and I might have found perfection yesterday.Oh 12 times... and I was thinking you'd finally gotten around to celebrating it for the first time. Or maybe it was the 25th anniversary of turning 21! (Now that's a depressing thought.)

half way to ninetyOh, God!!! Those two statements are soooooooooooooo depressing!!! :( :( :(

I'm glad you all had a great ride. That is one of the best trails I have ever been on. I've only done it once, but it is on my list of my best rides, most memorable moments on a bike. What a great way to celebrate your birthday!

Here's my late contribution to the discussion...

What does this say about the riders (and who did what?):

TWO riders took their shoes and socks off and waded across the creek-of-very-slippery-bottom

i think TWO riders attempted to ride across and made it no more that a few feet

and i think TWO riders walked across with shoes on and survived with wet feet for the remainder of the ride

BTW, it was an awesome way to close out what will become known as "Yellow's Kalifornia Years".

y, now a UT resident

That's a discontinued Terry item. I scored a pair from my friend who races for Team Terry. They are gone, no more are to be had. I've had people offer to buy them off my feet.

Do you have any trail pix?

Irulan

happy bday, SK, I hit 45 on thursday.

No, I don't know why, but we took no pictures while actually on the trail.

Terry's Ride Like a Girl socks - I have guys who want my socks. Terry has made them in different colors each of the last two years, only has them made in a small size and limited quantities. I have numerous times expressed my disbelief that they limit the availability of the socks in such a way. They don't seem to get it.

I have a precious pair of the old "Girls heart Dirt" socks. I asked Defeet to someday make socks that said "Guys heart Dirty Girls." We'll see. Their return email was very positive and included an offer of free socks if they used the idea.

Happy Birthday, Irulan, LBTC, Jobob, Spazzdog, and ??? Need to go look up the upcoming October b-days.

This sounds like a logic puzzle!

Do we also know that "No rider with wet feet wore 'Rides Like a Girl' socks"? Or maybe, "Three riders with wet shoes live in CA"? Hmmm, I need a pencil.

Though it is four riders with wet shoes living in CA (Thom, V, Bubba and Robb). You are correct that the prissy pink feet tipped-toed through the gravel and algae, emerging with pretty pink toes.

Two walkers were male. One female and one male attempted to ride across and they were not married.

It's upcoming. I did a nice solo ride yesterday, 13 miles up on Mt Spokane, saw two moose and two deer.

as for socks, I like having unusual socks. ;-) I'd like to have some that said Bike ****, but that's just me. Your Bike Sucks from bianchi are a lot of fun.

So yellow and SK took off their shoes and socks and walked.
Veronica attempted to ride across.
Thom walked across with shoes and socks on.

What I can't figure is whether Bubba walked and Robb rode or vice versa.

Do I win a kewl pair of socks if I work it out? :p

Caligurl, keep on eye on Terry's website next winter/spring. They've had the socks 2 years running, just a different color combo each time. But then you'll have to decide if you can wear them with baggy shorts. :p

Do you remember the hullabaloo when Lance showed up at the TdF or the Tour de Georgia, somewhere or other, wearing black socks? I thought there was going to be a mass heart attack in the cycling world.

Hee-hee, Irulan, we'll get her undies in a bundle all over again. :D

oh those black socks with shorts were UUUUUGLY!

actually.... for the most part i wear little white peds and have some "real" cycling peds that are white... so i'm ok... most of the time!

i got a GREAT deal on some grey peds type cycling socks at supergo... couldn't pass them up.. and they look great with my cycling shoes :D

i won't wear the cute higher up socks EXCEPT with tights legwarmers when i know i won't be taking them off... exposing me to potentially funny looking tan lines

uhm.... i wear the same socks with my very cute mtb shoes! hmmmmm must be a faux pas??? :D

some day i'll learn all the fashion ins and outs of BOTH sides of cycling!!

Rules?!?! About socks!?!?

I wear my short cycling socks to work everyday. I think they look cute with capris and the funky shoes I bought this year.

I especially like wearing these socks with them.

Veronica

I teach 5th grade so I'm on my feet a lot, but not 8 hours straight. I think they're pretty comfortable. I got mine at LL Bean. They have 100% return policy so if they don't work out - even after wearing all day - you can send them back.

I originally ordered a 9 - that's what size my Keen sandals are - but they were too small. When I got the 9.5s I noticed that they have the European size on the label as well. The 9.5 is a 40 - my European size. I think the difference was that I always wear the sandals barefoot. So if you do order some, you may want to keep that in mind.
