ok phone people....:)

Is there an app that will do this... if I take a photo with my phone, it will key in the GPS coordinates of where I am and put it on the photo, or tag it somehow?

So, for example, on my upcoming trip I could take a photo and just post the coordinates but not tell people exactly where I am?

thanks!!

Are you sure the camera app built into your phone won't already do that? Mine will (but I can't remember whether the default was to have geotagging off, or on).

ETA: you're on iPhone, yes? Unless you're on a very old OS, you do have geotagging, you just can't turn it on and off separate from all the other location services on your phone. Supposedly iOS 4 allows restricted location services.

I'll check it out. What I want to be able to do is post a photo to FB with GPS coordinates but no location name while I am out there.:D

Geotagging is a scary thing, IMO.

solved my issue another way. Google Earth, print screen, save as. :) I have the image and the coodinates, no geotagging or anything else.

I have location services turned on only for selected apps like urban spoon, weather, mapquest. Not for photos. You can choose for which apps you want to turn it on and I don't want my photos tagged.

But I don't understand why you would post a photo with GPS coordinates - doesn't that still allow everyone to figure out where you are?

I personally have no issues with posting it to my FB page, I've got my privacy settings set to my satisfaction. Plus I tell my friends where we, what's the difference?

I think what she was wondering (me too, but I didn't ask ;)) is why you would want to post the coordinates but not the location in words.

Make your friends go to Google Earth and generate more ad revenues for them? :p

Just a puzzle for my GPS savvy friends is all.
