Ok, so breaking 30 minutes for a 5K may not be a PR for some...but I finally did it. I have been running mostly mid range runs of 4 & 5 miles and not really working on speed. But I knew at the last 1/2 marathon I did I held sub 10 min miles early on. So yesterday I did a 5K and my goal was under 30 minutes.
It was tougher than I thought it would be. Luckily I had a "rabbitt". She looked more comfortable at that pace than I did, but I stayed on her heels. She did speed up some in the 2nd mile, but I hung with her. I did allow her more of lead during the last mile and that almost cost me my sub 30 minutes. Came in 29:50. :D
Of course in my age group I would have to run sub 8 minute miles to really place or be near the top. Doubt that will ever happen. But I am quietly celebrating my own victory and PR!

Way to go, katluvr! A pr is a pr, no matter what the actual time is!

Congratulations, sub 30 is great! I don't think I could do it running these days. And a lot of people would never even try to push their limits that way! :)

Sweet!!! I think breaking those "clean" numbers (like one's that end in 5's and 0's) are really fun!!!! Congrats!!

Next goal: Break 25 minutes!!!

But seriously, great job! I would love to break 30 min on my 5k. The last one I ran I did exactly 10 min miles and still almost collapsed at the finish from wheezing so hard. BUT I ran a 6.55 mile race last week in exactly 60 min, so I'm hoping I will actually break 30 min in a 5k (for some reason I'm faster when I run longer, yes it's completely illogical!)
