Swimming goggles?

Up until now I have not bothered with goggles in the pool, probably because I do not generally swim for long but now I am enjoying it so much, I thought time for some goggles, so hopefully no more red eyes! ADVICE PLEASE? :rolleyes:

Here are a selection I have been looking at, not sure if more expensive means better or not.

They don't leak, don't fog, and are remain relatively comfortable during long swims (1+ hrs). That said, I'm a stickler about taking good care of them (rinse them after every swim and never, ever touch the inside of the eye pieces).

I think goggles are one of those personal things. What works for me might not work for you.

Ditto this entire post! I have settled on the Vanquisher 2.0 as well. I just have to be careful to get the strap just right (and not too tight) or they start to injure the skin under my eyes.

Clock - goggles are like saddles. You have to find what works for you as all faces are different!

you really need to try them on. I swam competitively in HS and college and always wore Speedo, but now I can't (they just don't fit anymore). I have better luck with TYR, and have liked my Aquasphere goggles very much, too. I really depends on how they fit your face.

I agree with trying them on. The rule of thumb that I've always heard is...while in the store, take them out of the package and place the goggles on your face but without putting the strap over your head. If the goggles have good suction around your eyes and don't immediately fall off, then it's a "good fit". That's how I've always done it, and for the most part...it works well.

As for a specific brand...I'm partial to Aquasphere. I've been using the Aquasphere Kaimen goggle for several years with good success. I have also tried their Cayenne goggle and liked it, as well. I tend to lean towards goggles that have a 1-piece design, as they feel more comfortable to me. However, your results may vary.

Very often these days, items like goggles are bubble packed so you cannot try them on.

I suppose the type of seal is important and if the anti fog is impregnated into the material and not a coating?

One more sillier question, the metallic/mirro goggles, are they purely for the sun?!

I just bought a new pair of googles. I was able to try on ~10 pairs- they were all packed in the snap-close bubble packages, not the ones that are crimped shut. I settled on a pair of Aqua Sphere Lady Kayenne. They fit my small face well, I love the ease of adjustment, and they were the most flexible of all the styles and brands I tried.

It's definitely a personal preference thing- have fun shopping!

I purchased a pair of the Aquasphere Vista & wouldn't recommend them as they leaked..:mad:.

I love the aquasphere kaimans! Now if i could just find a pair of prescription goggles as cool as the aquasphere ones :mad::(

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, don't tell me that, I've spent the last few hours looking at so many and so like the Aqua Sphere Kayenne. :(

Actually, before I buy anything online I am going out tomorrow to try and locate a few shops that stock swimming goggles and see if I can try them on first. Not sure about where you live but in the UK everybody is so concerned about Health and Safety, I will probably be told I cannot try any goggles on in case I have conjunctivitis or worse! :eek:

I tried out my new Kayennes today. Very comfy, very easy to take off and put on, and leak-free. They're definitely worth the money to me.

Woohoo, well done Amazon, I received my Goggles 22 hours after ordering them. :eek:

Exciting this morning, 8 am got into the pool and once put on and started swimming, I can now say that my Kayenne's are a resounding success, didn't leak, didn't fog up and extremely comfortable and the adjustment is so easy.

Once out, I made sure they where rinsed thoroughly, now hanging up to dry naturally so I don't have to wipe them dry.
