Ok, I've done a few 100km rides in the past few months and am wondering what's the significance of a century? Why isn't a century 100km's? I'm a bit confused and would love anyone to shed light on it.
Also, if i do 100km's in a day is this still savvy?

100 km is a "metric century"... 100 miles is an "imperial century".
So, they are both centuries ;)
I think doing either kind in a day is pretty cool, personally :)

Aahh I laughed when I read this. Natheless is right its still a century just a metric one. Since Ive been living here in the USA I spend a large part of my time converting miles to Kms and back the other way just so I know what the hell distance everyone is talking about.

I'm not sure why the States have never gone metric like the rest of the world... but a century is 100 miles... and a metric century is 62 miles or 100km... you should've seen me in Europe trying to figure out how far away stuff was... it was all in metric and I felt like a complete dolt asking "how many miles is that?" I spent a good part of my trip doing basic math! :D

Huh, I learned something new. I never heard the term "imperial century" until you guys used it. I always just used "metric century" for 62 miles and "century" for 100 miles. For some reason, I assumed the "imperial century" meant a double metric. Learned something new. So, if you believe in a God and that God is the only higher power than an Emperor, is any ride greater than 100 miles a Divine Century? Just trying to figure out the proper terminology to use here in the Colonies.

Maybe we should be using the term "Presidential Century" here in the colonies for 100 miles, and the mother country could use "Regal Century" for 100 kilometres. And then maybe "Supreme Century" for further distances. So many possibilities... And what term would the non-believers use? We need to form a committee to resolve these issues!
