I was mentioning on another e-group that I'm on that my little sister got her letter of approval to receive toys for her kids from Toy-for-Tots. A friend of mine in the New Orleans area emailed me that she and another friend will be "adopting" my sister and her family if I would send sizes, color preferences for the two younger ones, and a store preference for a gift card for the oldest child.

I'm deeply touched that my friends want to adopt my sister and her family and ship them a box. I'm sure it'll cheer up my little sister - that the world isn't caving in. ;)

Now if I can just figure out how to surprise little sister and pay her electric bill, without her knowledge.

Happy Holidays!

Touching when you can help out a little, bringing joy to someones life, if even over the simple things.

Thanks for sharing!!

That is so sweet and encouraging. It certainly cheers ME up.

Surely the company won't mind who is giving them money so long as someone is? Although I don't suppose they'd necessarily keep it a secret if your sister were to call and ask who paid the bill. Maybe you could visit the office in person and pay in cash! How fun!

Little sister lives in North Carolina and I live in Washington (state), so logistically it'll be a bit difficult for me to drop by to pay her bill. I have considered calling the company's business office to see if I can send a check - what info will they give me over the phone and still protect her privacy?

Beth, your sister is so lucky to have you!

Good luck with the electric company. Can't hurt to give them a call, right? I've never tried to do anything like this, but my guess would be that if you have her name and address, they should be able to take a payment to her account. But maybe they couldn't tell you the balance if you are not the owner of the account.

Good luck with the electric company. I'd call them and see what they say. It can't hurt. I know when my husband went to the electric company to open an account and get our electric turned on. (Actually I think transferred as we are renting a townhouse). The lady in front of him had gone to pay her bill and when she went to pay it they told her it was already paid. They would not tell her who paid it, just that it was paid and she owed them nothing for that month. My husband said she was so happy and looked so relieved also. So I'm guessing it can be done, but I have no ideas other than to call the company and ask.

That is just awesome what your friend is doing for them as well.

Oh please do! You are such a kind hearted, generous sister to do this and your actions may just touch the hearts of many at the utility company. :)

What a lovely and inspiring story. As far as electric, if all else fails, email the company's CEO. There's probably a staff to take care of such emails, and they can make things happen.
