I haven't been able to ride too much lately because of hip/leg issues, but I felt like I could handle the the annual Toys for Tots ride to the Tucson zoo today. It's sponsored by a local bike organization and lots of people show up from many different cycling groups around town. There is a shorter family ride (about 5 miles each way) and a longer ride (about 25 miles). Everyone decorates their bikes and wears fun clothes. You have to transport a toy with you to the zoo, and then you get a free entry pass.

I dressed my bike up for Chanukah, with blue ribbon wrapped around the top tube and down tube, and wider glitter and blue ribbon woven through the spokes, with a few extra bows tied on for good measure. Oh, and I found a reindeer hat that fit perfectly over the top of my helmet. It was really fun.

Anyone else have a holiday cycling event to share?

Nothing up here of interest, as it's icy, snowy and in the 30s.

That sounds like fun, though. Can I come visit? :D

I re entered the Audax force yesterday :) with a 220k ride. The dudes on the 400k zipped off into the distance and never saw them again :o. Then again, they're training for the PBP! I think there were three of us doing the 200k & we only caught up to him once! I rode w a dude from the BNA forum & his mudgaurds drove me nuts! We've had no rain for a while though...:rolleyes:.

It was 80km's of hills & 140 flattish-can't complain! The hills we did ride weren't as bad as I thought they were going to be. I know one of them very very well as we drive up it to go to mtb events all the time. I took my time on each of the hilly sections as i'd no clue what was ahead.

Traffic was great for the most part. Now if someone at Main Roads would create roads that are SMOOTH, it would save my bladder n hands . I couldn't ride on the inside line because it was too rutted n blech so I had to ride just beside the white line. Motorists were great!

I thought traffic would be frightening along the SW highway but I was wrong!
Tons o fun & glad I iced my knees n shoulder when i got home! Next one Jan 29th.

So, if you think a hill's bad, perhaps it's not!

I still can't get a map from google earth onto my garmin...what do i need to do??? I've read the help stuff on the garmin site but still can't find the answer.

I definitely look goofy and if you look close enough to see my feet, you will see I am barefoot as we took the pics at home last night...
