Has anyone done this before?
I'm thinking about a visit to see my Dad and sister, who live in Pinehurst, this fall. I can plan the trip to be there for the tri. The sign up is in January and it fills fast, so advanced planning is in order.
Questions:
It's listed and described as being a hard course. Is it?
Am I nuts to even think about doing this. I have yet to do a triathlon.
It's an international distance tri. The cut off is 4 hour. Yikes!
It would be a great motivator for me. I have almost a year to train.
Am I nuts? bikerHen

Go for it. You have a year (more or less). Signing up is a great motivator. Of course you can do it!!

Practically, as long as they allow you to transfer your spot to another person, you can sign up and if you change your mind it's a pretty safe bet someone will buy it from you. If they don't and you decide you're not ready (or you hate triathlons ;)), you're out the cost of registration. If you give it a shot, you will definitely learn something. :)

Logistically, you have to figure out how to get your bike down there (or find a sufficient bike in enough time of the race to make sure it fits). That would be the biggest technical hurdle. Fall is a great time to travel, though, it's not too cold here yet and not too hot or humid there for any climate adjusting.
