I've posted about this before, but I still find it such a riot that it was worth posting again. Plus, this article is from this year's ride and has some new/fun pictures. I was not in town so I didn't watch any of it. The road they are climbing there is a few blocks from where I grew up and the hill I took a picture of Maidei at the bottom of. :) I have to try and be back there next year to watch them try and climb some of these hills.

[whimpers] Look at that hill...
They started that race (the Dirty Dozen) a few years after I left Pittsburgh for good... I'd actually love to go back and do it some day. I think that Canton Ave is pretty close to where my grandparents lived.
I've been up a 24%er that we have out here... but I'm not to so sure about a cobbled 37%... I think I'd need a bigger cassette!!!

My leg started aching in sympathy when looking at that hill! I can't imagine what it would be like to tackle that with cobblestones...

I think that Canton Ave is pretty close to where my grandparents lived.
Then they lived quite close to where I grew up and my family still lives.
This year the weather would have been very welcoming too. Some years they are doing this in the snow. I wouldn't even walk up Canton in the snow. :)
When I took the picture of Maidei at the foot of Canton, I laughed because I had to wait in line, as there was a car with Ohio plates at the foot of it taking pictures. That street's making quite a name for itself.

I sent the link to my former roommate who lives there. She said "Who the heck planned the route?! I hate driving on some of those roads!"
