I keep meaning to take up running, mostly to better my 2 mile run score for the National Guard. Right now I'm around the 18 minute mark, which isn't bad....but it's not anything to crow about either.

I have this tendency to like having things with me (see the preparedness thread and you'll see what I mean lol!) and running doesn't seem to lend itself to that. I'm not even sure where to carry my keys, much less water or anything else, and I'm exceedingly uncomfortable doing any activity without any water. I have a Camelpack, but it looks a little erm warmish for that kinda usage-age and heavy since since it's a three litre. Heck it gets a little hot to wear when I'm riding, and that isn't nearly as sweaty an activity!

So what do you guys carry with you when you run?

I use a Fuel Belt (http://www.fuelbelt.com/). They have a variety of styles to choose from depending on how much water & other stuff you want to carry. I like that they have the small bottles -- distributes the weight better than one big bottle. Also lets you mix and match between water and energy drink. I've found it to be pretty comfortable, it's not heavy and I've never had any chafing problems with the belt.

The model I have holds four bottles and has a small pouch for keys, gels, etc. I think there's other companies out there that have a similar product if you want to comparison shop.

Hi,

I use the Ultimate Direction Luna for runs over two hours. I've put a 100 oz Camelbak bladder into it, though, since 72oz wasn't enough. But I run in really hot weather, in the 90's. http://tinyurl.com/7bven Plenty of room for everything, and it rides really well.

For short runs I like the Ultimate Direction Strider single bottle belt, though I'm not comfortable with only one bottle of water for very long. It should be ok for your time frame, though. http://tinyurl.com/a37bn Still _plenty_ of room in the little pocket for keys, gels, camera. The bottle sits diagonally in the small of your back, and the pocket is kind of over the left front of the hip- very comfortable and stable.

Both items are women-specific.

Wow, those are all some pretty nifty ideas....except, I'm a starving student and they are bit too spendy for my budget and the amount of time I spend on running versus biking. Le sigh, guess I look for a tiny cheap fannypack at the least, still not sure about the water issue. I've now tried running with the three-litre and decided that was even less fun than I already don't have when running.

I know I should run more, just trying to make it less odiferous :o

Is this cheap enough for you? You should hardly ever have to pay full retail for anything! Look for whatever you want at http://www.froogle.com

UD Strider, $18, Sports Basement http://tinyurl.com/dgmdm

UD Luna, $34, REI http://tinyurl.com/avq4f

$20 is much better! I'll still have to see if I can afford it after books. (I check out as many as I can from the library, but I have to get a couple of older editions yea or nayed before I know how much I'll have left)

Thanks!
