My first decent ride in more than 2 months :D

It was only 16 miles, but I will take it! I paid close attention to how my leg felt, and while there was the occasional very light twinge in both tendons, they behaved and now feel fine, I did my stretches as soon as possible when I got home :D I did ride in an easy gear, and there weren't many hills in my route although there were a few. I took the easiest possible route and avoided a couple of hills that I thought wise to avoid for a little longer and did not hammer it.

I felt great, though I can tell that I have lost some strength, though not as much as I had feared. It was a great feeling to ride out of my front door - and an even better feeling to return home and find that I was hungry from the effort :) It felt great to actually be able to DO something with my body!

Still have to be easy and be wise about how I get back into things. The season will help with that.

I did see three deer :) I think I perhaps had a little too much on for the temps, but I have to figure that out. Ms. Explorer got a full tune-up yesterday and she felt great!

I have, however, forgotten what 17mph winds feel like when I get on the edge of harvested fields. There was one downhill that is generally protected from the wind, but the wind just happened to be coming from that direction. I have typically gone 20-25 mph down that hill - but the wind was pushing back so much that I was going down the hill at 14!

Love the new BMX pedals. Since I can't go clipless until at least spring, I sprang for a set of Sun Ringle ZuZu pedals (http://www.sun-ringle.com/mtb/accessories/zuzu-pedals/) as they have more pins, the pins are adjustable, and they have sealed bearings. My original pair of BMX pedals were quite beat up and only had 4 pins - I think in winter conditions the more the merrier.

On part of my route there is a VERY rough patch of pavement that I avoided as my feet always slid around with my older bmx pedals. Today I didn't ride around it but over it - and my feet stayed right where they were supposed to. Wasn't sure my TEETH would, but my feet did :)

Looking forward to it being cold enough to try out my new gloves that someone at TE made possible and giving a review on this.

Very cool about the gloves! I hope they're awesome. Congrats on the ride! Feels SO good after a forced absence.

This morning I was able to ride the spinning bike in my apartment's fitness complex and actually tighten down the toe cages and do something that approached real work :) I experimented with standing runs and standing climbs with moderate resistance...and NO bad after-effects :)

So the progress continues, if'en I can keep from over-doing things. No more bike stuff until the weekend  :)

I am actually putting off purchasing cold-weather tights until my tendons are in better shape - I can't risk over-doing things right now... I think my leg-warmers will be good until the low 40's, but probably not warm enough for lower temps. I WANT a pair of PI AmFibs, but it seems prudent to wait, knowing me. D-E-N-I-A-L is not a river in Egypt :o

Catrin,

I wish it wasnt' so friggin' cold today we could meet at Eagle Creek, back in town for Thanksgiving, for a short ride! If you are up to that sort of thing let me know, I'm around and available till about 3? Glad to hear you are feeling better though!

Oh darn, if it were less windy I would take you up on it :( I also rode the spinning bike yesterday, I don't think leg is quite up to riding anything two days in a row just yet though I would consider it if it were less windy for a short ride. Please do let me know the next time you are in town, I literally live across the street from Eagle Creek now :D

No worries:D It was a long shot, the wind and cold was a bit much but I went for a run in the park. Gotta work off some of the junk food I ate yesterday. Hope you had a great holiday, I will be in again in a couple of weeks. Maybe if we get a decent day we can go then? Hopefully no blizzards.

Sounds good, and my tendons will be a little better in a few weeks (bit by bit) and hope to have picked up some real cold-weather tights by then. I do not think my leg warmers are really up to freezing temps. Last winter I wore them along with a pair of thermal knickers at the same time and THAT worked :)

Just let me know when you return and if the weather & our schedule works out I would love to go for a ride in Eagle Creek.

Catrin, do you know about the Luminary Ride?

I just looked it up, it sounds like fun but I find the idea of group urban riding quite intimidating. Probably because I do not really have much experience with group rides - group riding in the country is a very different animal indeed. Especially when you are slow like me... I will keep it in mind however, especially if we get a warm spell :)

You should keep it in mind it's really fun. Not to mention our group sticks together and we don't go fast. Some of them do but we just let em go and take our time. I hope I am able to do it still, my schedule for returning for Christmas break is changing up a bit due to me having to move upstairs in my apt building. I'll keep you posted if I end up not going, I'd love for us to get together at some point. :D
