Gals,

I am such a wimp. It gets down to 50 degrees here in AZ (but its a dry cold, urrrrrr!), and I get cold easily.

I took an old Smartwool shirt and cut the sleeves off. I wear it under my biking shirt and it is wonderful! I wish I could find a slightly lighter merino wool, but it does work. Icebreaker has a nice tank but its a bit overpriced at fifty dollars.

Anyway, the vest takes a bite out of the cold and with arm warmers, I am super comfortable!

Good thinking!

You might want to try a Craft sleeveless base layer or even Under Armor. The Craft is less than $50.00, but still a bit pricey. However, you can find them on sale at TE and Terry when they have their winter sales. Under Armor is more reasonably priced and you can find it in any sporting goods store.

Or check places like TJMaxx or Nordstrom Rack. I got two smartwool sleeveless base layers (super soft) from Nordstrom Rack for like $30 total last year.

My favorite underlayer for all but the very hottest most humid part of the summer here in Houston, is a light merino wool vest from Jones Ware (yes it is spelled that way) which I bought off of the web site. It keeps me warm when it's cold and pulls the sweat off in the warmer temps, plus I find it breaths better than my craft underlayer. Jones ware makes some nice wool stuff for almost every season and or climate.

Great idea about TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack. I will have to look the Jones Ware stuff up too. But I will have to admit, I just went through my cool weather bin, and I found a bunch of old long underwear tops that are good candidates to have the sleeves cut off!

I like soft 100% merino wool the best.
Plus, it doesn't get smelly or clammy like 'technical fabrics'.
