I need a watch

As a hopefully budding triathlete, I'm finding I need a way to keep track of time. I don't want to purchase a Garmin type device or a heart rate monitor at this point, just a basic way to keep track of my times. I know it needs to count up, digitial is probabley better, water proof is a must for swimming.
I know this sounds kind of silly, but what exactly do I need it to do? I've looked at some with all sorts of features but I don't know which ones I really need and which I really don't need. Can someone help me out?

I really liked my Timex "Ironman" watch for my tri. (I also used it at work.)

$35-$40, waterproof as all get out, times eight ways from Sunday and has alarms if you need them.

Mine is now something like 5 years old, has had battery replaced once, and is still just roarin' along.

(my dress watch is also a Timex, I like Timex... YMMV)

+1 on the Timex Ironman. I had one as my everyday, everything watch from fifth grade until it died two years ago. I never went swimming with it, but I wore it in the shower once by accident and it was fine.

I have a Timex Ironman Sleek 50 lap watch that I've been using for almost 4 year; it went more than 2 years before it even needed a battery change. It does everything I need from a basic chronograph watch.

I also wear a Timex Ironman watch during workouts. They go on sale at Fred Meyer pretty regularly. I picked one up there this summer for about $24. Who can argue with solid, reliable, and inexpensive?

I used to love them - but the case on my last Timex Ironman totally disintegrated on me (before the battery even wore out - maybe 2 years?). I have a Freestyle Shark now - so far, so good.

I looked up the Timex Ironman on Amazon.:eek: There sure are a lot of different styles. The Sleek 50 did look pretty nice. Although they all seemed a little confusing. Guess I'd better start paying attention to the Fred Meyer ads.

Sure, You can borrow it. I've had a couple of them and they really have too many features, so I always try and find the one with the fewest features. I'll come by sometime before Saturday.

I'll concur with the Timex IM. I'm on my second one and like it so much I wear it every day. I use is mostly for swimming workouts since I have a Garmin for running but have found the IM is much easier to use during an event.

I've worn Timex Ironman watches forever, since long before we started selling them. One of the things I like about them best is that they are very easy to set. I've worn mine in the pool hundreds of times and it's completely watertight.

I'd have bought a second Timex Ironman if the strap weren't co-molded. Something about that kind of resin doesn't agree with my skin at all. (My old one had the wrap-around velcro strap. I couldn't find one at the time, but a search of Amazon turned up a couple. Odd.)

I wound up getting a Timex Expedition, but still prefer the Ironman.
